So how's the Phoenix going to be made worthwhile vs the 600? Or is it just going to remain a pile of poo?

It would be sweet if it were F15E with leather seats vs 737 business jet, ie customer needs to get his family out of dodge ASAP, he picks a Phoenix/Lynx crew to do the extraction, but if he wants a luxury yacht experience he goes for the 600. Like they described, James Bond with a briefcase chained to his wrist type stuff.

I really hope we see 890s hosting high stakes poker tournaments, especially with facial cues (force enable the feature?), and allowing us to rob them Payday style. And other events, like art shows/auctions, criminal syndicate meetings masquerading as charity board meetings, etc, ripe for the taking by various other professions.

It already has waaaaay more cargo space and a snub fighter.  It's a much better "I want to do everything" kind of ship than the 600i.

The module terminology makes me think the 600i might, somewhere down the line, be capable of being refitted for different roles, so it might get back some of the versatility factor that the Phoenix brings to the table, but that takes a re-fit back at your hangar.  I personally don't consider that to be versatile, actually, just modular.  That's about all I care to speculate it on at the moment, though.

Considering other than my Mustangs and Avenger, none of my current hangar ships are flyable, I melted a few to pick up a 600i.  Which will in turn get melted with the credit being held for other stuff later on.

So as a heads up, you can't repurchase the 600i if you melt it.  Reddit is talking about it now.

I'd take the 600i over it in a heartbeat. Styling is better. Armament is better (or can the Constellation mount size 5s with no gimbals?).

Yeah, me too.

Honestly, I'm paring down my fleet since I still have no income.  So I'm currently at 2 Mustangs and a Nox.  I'll likely unmelt my Avenger and then sit on stuff until either they are going to kill unmelts or the game is further developed.  At launch at minimum I'd like my Gemini, Redeemer, and possibly DUR or Terrapin, but will call it at that.  If they fix the 600i unmelt issue I might buy mine back, but if not, no real loss to me.  I'd rather have the $400 to put into an AR build as I was gifted a lower this week.

I've been asking the devs for that in chat for years.  I don't mention it in chat much anymore...there are some die-hard anti-gambling freaks there who bitch about it so much it annoys me.  Short answer is there will likely be mini-games you can put on your ship, but development on trivial content isn't high on the list of priorities.  But my dream of running a space casino, or at least high-stakes poker, is not dead by any means.

Used to be able to mount 4 S5 guns.  Clipping issues with the body of the ship.

That has since been changed to S5 Fixed up top and S4 MAX gimbaled (no s5 fixed possible) down low.

Currently contemplating melting my Polaris for the 600i.....and then re-buying some of my melted ships.

Everything I have is a pure combat ship and I would love a larger gunboat / blockade running with multiple S5 cannon.

Also a cash cow type ship and has modules likely can get cargo / more abilities later easily.

This fits the bill.

Makes a nice Millennium Falcon hehe.

They probably can't implement in-game gambling for legal reasons.  They will sell EUC for cash, people gamble for UEC.  It's like buying chips and gambling for chips.

Naaa.  Legal ownership of UEC resides with CIG alone.  The only way they'd get in trouble was if CIG offered to buy credits back.

Look at all the online poker sites.  You can buy more play money to keep playing.  Perfectly legal.

How are the 600i w/ Exploration Module capabilities compared to those of the Carrack or Aquila?
The 600i exploration module features two manned scanning stations, a deployable ramp for an exploratory ground vehicle, an Origin-created Rover and SCU storage for any artifacts needing to be stored once discovered, so it is a solid option for explorers looking to purchase a stylish alternative to the Aquila, while the Carrack should provide a much longer term exploration base and facilities.

Is the 600i w/ Exploration Module’s 36 SCU of cargo space when carrying the rover or when not carrying the rover?
The figures are based on the ship cargo capacity while not including the Rover. The exploration module not only has the lift for the rover, but also space for the additional SCUs.

Why are there no Point Defense Systems similar to other high-end luxury ships like the Phoenix and 890 Jump?
The simplest reason is variety. We wanted to explore different defensive options for this particular luxury ship. For this reason, instead of a PDS the 600i features two remote turrets, so in the instance that the ship is fully crewed, and your gunners are up to it, they will be able to ensure your ship stays protected from threats. If automation is your bag, you will be able to equip them with an AI module, which will help defend your ship if your crew are unable or unavailable to assist

Can the 600i be flown effectively solo?
The 600i is, fundamentally, a multi-crew ship. However, for its size is probably one of the most solo-friendly ships out of the box. By utilizing unmanned remote turrets and capable shields, a skilled pilot should be able to effectively pilot the 600i solo in most regards.

What agility can we expect from this ship versus the Constellations considering that the 600i has more than twice the mass of RSI’s ship?  This is especially important since the 600i comes with fixed guns and no gimbals.
Whilst the 600i may be faster than the Constellation in a straight line (more on Thruster ratings in a later answer) it will suffer in its maneuvering due its bulk and size. The fixed weapons that come default can be swapped out to gimbals like other ships.

How many missiles can the Origin 600i carry? In the brochure the 600i is stated to carry 16 S3 missiles yet the website states 4x S3 pylons with 16 missiles each (total of 64). Or was this just a misunderstanding and it can carry either 16xS3, 32xS2 or 64xS1 missiles?

The perils of active development! To clarify, the 600i has 4 missile racks that can hold 4x S3 missiles each, giving a grand total of 16 S3 missiles for the ship.

Will the 600i Explorer have a medical area?
The 600i does not have a medical area no, due to it not holding a huge crew, this would be a room that ended up potentially being used rarely.

So to make sure I didn't get boned like I did on the Phoenix (missed the LTI)

I melted my Polaris and first got a 600i Touring and a Glaive (cause WTH might as well get a token on the account)

I then melted the Touring and got an Explorer.  I will melt that before the OCT token refresh and get the Polaris back.

Once they figure their shit out we will see.

They're down to 26 bugs to fix before Evocati release due to fixes or refocusing on key issues. All of the issues need to be fixed but we may see the PTU release by or before CitizenCon.

Oddly enough, I was just about to post an update.

5 bugs left that are keeping 3.0 from deploying to testers.  Down from (I think, but don't quote me) 27 or so a few weeks ago.  So Citizencon full rollout of 3.0 is entirely possible, bordering on probable as a 'worst case' that is also their big reveal for the show.

The Origin X1 will go on sale Friday, September 29, 2017. There will be three variants with prices ranging from $40 to $50.  Personally, I think it (from the teaser) looks weird as hell.

I've completely lost interest in this game. Seems to me that at launch (should that actually happen) everyone basically paid RL money for 5+ ships with LTI and the game will be the equivalent of every second person on the road driving a Ferrari.

Regardless, I bought a package like 2 years ago that included the Constellation for $250. I was stoked, now I just keep wondering what the fuck was wrong with me for giving them $250 for a video game that basically didn't exist.

I don't even remember how to log in; but is a Constellation from 2 years ago better/worse/exactly the same than what you can buy now? Is there a bonus for getting in that early and its somehow sought after, or is it basically worth less than current versions because they've probably changed the entire game 10 times and they already have my money?

Would love to just get the 250 back.

You can sell the ship on r/shiptrades if you feel like it.  Probably could get your $250 out of it, more if you sell the account with it.

That said, the Connie has basically been upgraded from the ground up, everything has.  So it's the same Connie that you can buy now, just bigger and fancier ish than when you bought it a few years ago.  Then again, the game engine has had huge upgrades, etc.

You do you though.  IMO the game is still going to come out, and if they can put out 50% of promise, it'll still be awesome.

Bernie voters wish they could get their donation money back. Big difference is, you can probably sell your account for what you paid, and even if you don't you'll get value out of the end product. They get shit.

OTOH, I'm sure, being the ultra analytical type you are, you read the thing on the sale page about how you're donating to a crowdfunding project and not actually purchasing shit, right? Right?

The percentage of backers who have Connies are quite low, and will be even more diluted by new players. Then add in the NPCs who have whatever distribution of ships CIG wants to see across the universe.
But I do agree, sitting there with a Polaris, Phoenix, Gemini, etc, I'm feeling bit like "umm, when the F am I going to have time to fly all these fuckers..." but can't make any hard decisions on what to sell. I just remember the hundreds of hours in EvE to earn my carrier, and losing it in a few minutes. At least with having LTI on the stuff I've pledged for, even though I worked a number of hours for the cash to buy them, I'll never lose the ships themselves.

Yeah, I just kind of feel let down by the dev's just selling more and more and more ships. It's obvious to see that while people probably agree with me on it, there are a lot that don't evidenced by all of the ship buys. I vaguely remember at the way beginning I liked that they said you could get everything in game the hard way, or just buy it but they would be somewhat limited in what they sold. Since then its been one ship release after another and unless you basically have some sort of spreadsheet going (which I'm sure some people do) trying to figure out what something is designed for against an 'older' model that only really exists on paper just makes you feel like you got in at the beginning and now there's just constantly bigger/better stuff. But who knows, I haven't followed it very closely anymore.

So out of curiosity, whats the Connstellation 'designed' to particularly do now? Originally (and we all knew it would change) it was supposed to be one of the, if not the most customizable non-capital ship where there were already thoughts of it being a long range missile boat to being spec'd out to basically hit/run pirate board people with a boarding party that it can carry. Again, no idea anymore as I haven't followed.

And for the people mashing keys and gnashing teeth over 'muh star citizen!1!1'; notice how I asked about value (you know, the free market concept in a secondary market?) and not an actual dollar to dollar refund. But hey, some people are just sooooo analytical.

Not just what you ask, but how you ask.

Connie hasn't really had a specialization since I first encountered the game in '12. There's a cargo version, an explorer version, a GP version, and a luxury version. There are ships that do each of those things better, but few that do all of them better. No idea at this point whether you'll be able to swap modules to the degree that you can mimic, say, the explorer with the base hull.

I never liked it myself.

Players will only ever be 10% of the universe, so even if every one of us ponied up for an Idris, we'd still be a small part of the overall population.

Also, the scope of the game has expanded enormously over the course of development, and we're already seeing (in alpha) things they told us might take years beyond commercial launch to see. In simple terms, they need money to fund this expanded development, and the only way other than to sell out to a AAA publisher, is to sell ships/pledges. I'm a well known not-fan of the cost of the newer ships, but I realize that they have to give at least perceived value for the money they're asking for. I'd kind of like to see smaller accessories added for smaller payouts, but the market has spoken, and they've got buyers for the new ships coming out.

Of course, things like the Nox and the X1 aren't exactly game breakers, and I suspect that guys who're ponying up $40-70 for them are going to be smacking their foreheads once we get launch and they realize how cheap they'll be in the finished game economy.

If you're not seeing value, bail. No harm, no foul. You've already been appraised of venues where you can get some or all of your investment back.

X1 is up for sale, although the CIG site is really slow because people are all over it right now.  IMO it's a solid 'meh' for me, but to each their own.  In order:

Base
Velocity (Racing)
Force (Stealth)
Limited Edition sale 'Scarlet' skin

I've been out of the loop on this game for several years, still only have my Aurora MR game package and my AMD Mustang Omega game package.  I did jump in to the main sub-reddit some months ago during that huge ship upgrade debacle and grabbed them all just in case.

Where's a good place to quickly catch up on where the game is currently at, and wtf is going on with upgrades/"melting"/etc?  Most of this stuff is foreign to me at this point.

ETA:  Also, I've been afraid to jump in to play what's already there because I don't want to destroy my ships.  I'm probably wrong about this so some clarification would be appreciated.

The game is really close the the alpha 3.0 release.  The problem for many is that it has been very close for a few months now.  They are down to just a few blockers.  That is going to add a fair amount to the pliability.  But even now there are multiple things to do and see in the "Baby Persistent Universe" as well as a fighting waves of aliens or pirates as well as a FPS multiplayer.

As to your ETA don't worry.  There are literally zero repercussions for your ships at this point.  Play it and have fun.

Just one blocker atm I believe. Evocati will introduce several more I'm sure. I'm hoping will get 3.0 in the PU before the end of this month.

Evocati invites are going out! Currently sitting at 17 must fix bugs that bed to be addressed before wider PTU release plus whatever the Evocati find.

FYI, all concierge backers are in first wave PTU from here on out. Honestly, I thought it was always this way.

Concierge has been in the first wave for a long time. I forget when they made that change, but basically, one of the devs dropped into the concierge chat asking who was online with a fast connection, and was adding us individually to the authorized player list for a non-public-PTU test. I suggested just adding all concierge backers to the early PTU list since there were so few of us and made us instantly available vs manually adding to the list. Next patch, first wave invite rather than waiting until the third or fourth wave as I had previously.

That has to be the “game changer” they keep dropping hints about, right?

They did say they made a huge breakthrough in player buildable outposts. Given the pioneer name, I’m wondering if it’s a base constructor.

I dunno, Evocati leaks seem to show it being very buggy.

I still sorta expect it to go to public PTU on Citizencon, just so CIG can say it is out there.
