I haven't seen a thread on this yet.  Anybody play the open beta weekends?  I did, and it was a blast.  I played WoW at lauch and for a couple of years afterward and I have to say that I really enjoy the mechanics in GW2.

I was thinking to check it out. The no tank/dps/healer concept seems pretty good. If you die it's your own fault. Hopefully it's not too dumbed down like WoW became.

Are they having any more open beta times before launch later this month?

There are none planned.

Leveling seemed like a big fat grind fest. Game has potential though.

from how they make it sound, it seems like it's specifically NOT a grind fest.....

I haven't played and have a limited look into the game - my wife and I are looking at a new MMO if WOW doesn't pick up

WoW is pretty much dead as far as being a real game and not a 'everyone wins!' free gear fest. Guild Wars deffinatly looks like it has more potential then Mists of Pandera.

For me it's a toss up between GW2 and Path of Exile. I got a PoE beta key this weekend and have been playing some. It's very Diablo 2-ish just more modern and a little more refined. The skill tree blows WoW's skill trees out of the water IMO. It's basiclly every class has access to every other classes talent points once you get to a high enough level to spec toward thier part of the tree. You can build each class a bunch of differnt ways, it's pretty creative.

anything having to do with Diablo probably sucks balls in my book... D3 was such a waste in my book that it's not even a toss up.....

WOW has gotten stupid easy..... while I miss a bit of vanilla I'm not pushing for the 40-80 hours a week that it took to be end game.......  while I miss that, I can't say I actually MISS that....

mists patch should be out before GW2..... I'm going to see how it's playing after that......

Well it's only like diablo in the sense that the camera view is the same and loot drops on the ground for anyone to click. Blizzard has nothing to do with it though. I only played D3 beta up to lvl 10 I think because it sucked. Path of Exile is what I expected D3 to be like. It's even 100% free to play once it's released. The only stuff you can buy with real money is a beta key (if you dont get a free one) and cosmetic stuff once the game goes live. They're gonna make their money off allowing you to buy differnt colors/looks for your armor, more character slots, more stash slots, etc.

It's worth checking out if your bored. So far it's about 100 times better then what I saw in D3. Even the currency system is unique. There's no gold, you buy, sell, and trade for scrolls, it's kinda weird at first but really makes it more fun rather then looting every last thing to vender which is always kinda annoying.

eh yes and no..... I like having a currency system and being able to leverage that to get stuff.....

the huge problem with dia-blow is the lack of a "world"

if GW2 can make a world as expansive and dynamic as WOW.... they will probably have something there..... I'm going to see what my old guild is going to do - many of them went to GW1 when this x-pac went boring.....

I leveled to 15 during beta, it certainly is. Even their dynamic world events are just more grinding.

Was it boring grinding like killing 1000 boars in westfall, or was it 'fun' grinding that's nessicary for any type of rpg?

I just want a time machine so I can go back to '98 and play UO and be there for the launch of EQ.
Luckily MMO's have been terrible lately so I've actually been productive.
I could have sworn we had a multi-page thread on GW2...
