I just picked up an Xbox 360 but I still have a tube TV. What can you guys recommend 23-24" range? Needs HDMI for the Xbox and DVI for my computer. Around $200 would be great. Thanks.

I can't really recommend anything specific.  However, when my tv crapped out I used a couple cheap flat screens temporarily.  I was really surprised at how good the picture was on both of them.   One was a small Sylvania and the other was an Insignia.  They both were LCD.

I couldn't believe how good the pictures looked on both and xbox was really good too.   HDMI cables really make a difference.

I have a subscription to consumer reports.  I'd be happy to look something up for you if you would like.

I do too but I totally forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me.

Haha.... No problem.    One thing that I forgot the mention is that there was a pretty big difference I noticed between the cheaper screens and the nicer tvs.  That was the viewing angle.   They looked great if I was looking at them directly in front.  However, if I moved to the side hardly at all they washed out pretty fast.

I have an HP 2159, which I believe is a 23" monitor, 1080P.   It has both HDMI and DVI connectors and works fine.  I would recommend not using the monitor sound, though (only a factor on the HDMI), as it seems to not go very loud.

I picked up a Dynex 24" HDTV at Best Buy. It's $149 but I had some gift cards so I got it for about $100.

I think this is the same model. I bought mine around December 2011 so maybe they have a newer version of it.

edit. I don't think it has a dvi connection though! Ooops.

Anything Samsung.

Do you have a separate speaker system? You can get a decent 23-25" PC monitor in that range, especially if you wait for a sale.

I've got a 24" Samsung, and I really like it.  I think the response rate is 5ms.

I'd suggest not getting one with built-in speakers; I've found that sound from those tends to suck.  A separate cheap set of 2.1 speakers will probably sound better, and you can move them where you want them.  Plus, I don't know about you but I do most of my gaming with headphones anyway.

I'm running a 27" Samsung on my computer and really enjoy it. Probably a little out of your price range, but the 24" ones should be no problem.

I have a 2.1 speaker system so I don't care if the display has built in speakers or not. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

OK another question: Is a cheapish $200 TV going to have better or worse picture quality etc. than a $200 monitor?

PC monitor will be alot better.

My HP 2311x has a very good picture. I got it on sale for $80 (which was a steal) I still see them on sale for around $140 and still worth it. Only issue is the stand sucks

for gaming you want a low refresh rate. 2ms preferably.
