What the hell? I really like the story line these games have brought to the Star Wars universe, but seriously... what the hell? Force Unleashed II is one of the shortest games I've ever played. I just beat it in two play sessions of no more than three hours each (that's around six hours for those of you not so good with math). Those shooters where the selling point is multiplayer, I can understand those having short single player campaigns (though I might not like it). But what the hell is up with Force Unleashed II? Everything about it was better than the first one, but it was ridiculously short! I honestly believe it was less than half the length of the first game. (Side note: one of the things that annoyed me about the first game was how the reused locations... for some reason Starkiller kept going back to the same planets for different missions... not so much with II with the exception of the final mission... which might have contributed to the shortness.) Shoot, I'm even willing to dismiss the fact that it's just a flashy button masher, which can be more annoying than fun at times. The worst part about it is no multiplayer component here. So the replay value is tanked until they come out with DLC (at 800 freaking Microsoft points per "level"). I guess collecting all the holocrons might be big for some people, but you're still playing the same levels over and over again. And then there's the whole light side/dark side thing, but that really only comes down to the final level/cut scene. There are the "training" challenges, but that doesn't add replay value... it's just a series of extra mini-games. While it was a good game and story, I have to say I'm particularly disappointed in it because of its shortness. Well I guess it's back to New Vegas for me, where I already have around 45 hours but have yet to beat the main storyline (which has several branching paths). |

You boys should've read the reviews 1st. I already had my doubts when I saw some of the early gameplay videos. Looked like the same thing with a few more gee-whiz visuals thrown in, but otherwise, the same old button-mashing affair.
LA used to be one of the most creative studios in the business. Just about everything they released in the 90's was solid. Factor 5 ("Rogue Squadron" games) was pretty good, too. But now, it's a lot shallow gameplay mechanics & "accessibility". How many yrs have we been asking for a renewed take on X-Wing/Tie-Fighter or Rogue Squadron? I've lost count. LA is about bean-counters & mass market consultants, not devs. |
