Vids make this one look sort of like Mass Effect meets Deus Ex.  I'd love to play this one but the reviews are all over the place.  Has anyone checked it out yet?

Some nice videos on the site:
Oh yeah, it is just Fidel Castro.

Alpha Protocol sucks ass. Don't buy it. One of the worst games I've ever wasted money on.

Trust me...

Bought it today. Not very far into it. Story seems ok. I like the dialouge system a lot. They don't use the actual names of firearms. The system for lockpicking and disabling alarms is pretty good. Hacking computers is harder than fuck and frustrates me to the point of breaking shit. The character customization is lack luster pretty shitty compared to other RPG's. I had high hopes for this game. as of right now I'm going the give it a 6/10. Hopfully it gets better. Hope this helps.

I thought this was going to be THE BOMB...

It looks and plays like a Playstation 2 game.

Played it for an hour and gave up.

This will be sold PDQ!

I went into it thinking it was going to be like deus ex, but it's like splinter cell with stats and leveling.  There are some interesting concepts, but it still has not sold me yet.  I need to see more of the story before I call it a total dud.  It could be interesting, but I am in the middle right now.

I've heard a lot of players who have given this game a serious try say a lot of the reviewers don't know what the hell they're talking about. When they talk about stealth sucking or pistols being crap, they're probably not putting points into stealth or trying to sneak around while wearing the Interceptor armor, and aren't doing things properly like letting the crit meter fill up for their pistol. I'll know in a few hours when I get my copy and give it a spin.

Beat the game as a freelancer. The reviews I've read are 3/4ths of the way correct. The pistols hug root even if you upgrade your pistol slot. If you plan to fight most of your enemies do yourself a favor and upgrade your assult rifle and martial arts slots. I really like the dialouge system and I like how if you collect intel on people it gives you tips on how to beat them. Character customization is awful and the graphics are pretty bad. Story was pretty good.

After beating the game I'll give it a 7/10.

No, the pistol is awesome. I can one-shot a lot of enemies using regular ammo because I bother to aim at them and let the critical strike marker go to zero. 3 kills, 3 bullets.

Character customization is pretty bad, yeah. However I don't see a problem with the graphics. Sure, they're not using the Cryengine, but so what? They look fine as they are. It's the Unreal engine.

Well I had to restart because I sort of walked myself into a corner as far as character development went and I hit a spot I couldn't beat.  I give that as sort of a hit against the game, but it did show me some interesting stuff.  Since I had to restart I was quite impressed with how the game deviates depending on your choices.  I am not exactly sure what I did differently, but there were quite a few different scenes the second time through.  Luckily with a knowledge of the levels you can fly through the second time around.  I was a knifing ninja.  I have not completed it yet, but so far the story seems to be in the vein of deus ex with a big cast of characters and the whole jumping around the globe doing missions.  It's sort of interesting seeing how it all goes down with your allies and enemies. I think the mechanics are inferior to deus ex, but for a game  that came out for consoles it's to be expected.  Console games are built for idiots.  The hacking and all of that seem a lot less thought out as far as the impact on the mission.  Deus ex would let you do a lot with it.  This you might just turn a camera off or something lame.  If they updated the mechanics and inventory to be like deus ex it could be interesting.  Not sure if there is room for a sequel since I have not beat it, but I like the system they built up.  They just need to shake off the ugly console dumbed down feeling.
