Hey guys, I just picked up a REALLY nice used PSP for my son's b-day coming up.  I was testing it out and tried playing one of the games I picked up for it, and it says something about having up do a system update to be able to play the game.

I've hooked the PSP up to my computer via the USB and have tried to do a network update, but when it says it's obtaining an IP address, it just times out.  What do I have to do to get this network update finished?

I have shut it off and powered back up to see if it'd recognize a connection but that didn't seem to work.

ETA:  Ok i got it to update from 4.01 to 5.55 from one of the games, but I think the current one is 6 something.

either you have ports blocked on your router or you have not properly set up the wifi on the psp to your network. Either way, this is easier, just use the produo memory card and follow the steps. You will see "download now" in the middle under download procedure.

Edit and never NEVER NEVER NEVER shut off the psp while it is updating, you will brick it.

I find it easier do do the desktop way. create a folder on your desktop and download the update to the folder, hook up the PSP to the desktop and transfer the file.

....for those who don't have wireless
