45 year old guy who is in reasonable shape (that's code for I am 15 lbs over what I should weigh), but with some history of back problems (Mostly when I stop working out)

I do regular workouts with convential weights and cardio. I've recently revamped my diet to get rid of the bad (good) stuff  and the weight is coming off.  I recently ran across CrossFit and am interested but in all that I've read it looks like something for guys in their late '20's.  Anyone out there in the 'prime' doing CrossFit??

I've seen people in thier "prime" doing crossfit and it still works great. The key is that you don't necessarily have to the ENTIRE workout of the day. For example, if the day asks for 200 burpies, you could do 100 or whatever your current fitness level allows. Just jot down what you did and over time you'll increase.

Me, I"m currently doing P90X and running because i'm an "unreasonable" shape and need to pass my USAF PT test in a few months. But once I get back into resonable shape I'll start CrossFit again.

My buddy owns a Crossfit gym and has old lady attendees.  Simply put, you do what you can, since there are so many different and diverse workouts.  I am no expert though.

The previous posters covered it. One of the most important concepts in Crossfit is to scale appropriately. There's a video of a woman in her 80s I'm guessing hanging from a bar instead of pullups, taking big steps instead of lunges, and stepping up on a box rather than jumping on it.

Know your limitations, push hard (but not TOO hard) and you'll do fine with Crossfit. I've been doing it for about 2 years.

Has it been that long? I remember when back you had only been doing it for 6 months.

Man time flies

Yeah it does fly, I was at my peak about a year ago when I got back from deployment. I fell off the wagon just a bit when I got home

I think it's a great workout for folks whose primary goal is to be all-around "fit".  If I was not into racing, I would probably be doing crossfit.
