Always open to new stuff once in a while on as new powders are always coming out. Also, I am going into new territory as far as mass goes.
Debating btwn Optimum Nutrition Whey, Casein, Serious Mass, Pro Complex. Others may add for consideration. Looking for glutamine and some creatine in the mix. Also, thinking of it being a meal replacement, as I use the shake as a supplement to food 95% of the time. I manage to eat actual food throughout the day, though hard to do. My weight has gone up so I am adjusting my protein and overall caloric intake to reflect and am now at the point where my on the go lifestyle won't allow me to eat more protein rich foods to meet my demand very easily. Currently using ON Whey and Casein, and twin lab amino fuel for quick shot after heavy lift days to supplement food. |

If you supplement your food intake with a shake 95% of the time..your mass gains will be disappointing. Plus, unhealthy. |

I never have just a shake on it's own when I have a shake. I eat some food with it as a snack and post workout. I eat as much actual food as possible. Is that unhealthy? If so how and how will my mass gains be disappointing? |

My comment was based on your 95% comment, which was unclear as you stated. Gaining MASS successfully on a 95% liquid diet is unreal. 95% liquid diets are unhealthy for extended periods of time unless under the care of a physician. Look up the pros and cons There are plenty of well researched papers and industry studies that will support the aforementioned. Replacing one meal a day with a MRP is fine. Protein pre, peri, and post is fine. Other wise whole foods edit: is to was Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: Always open to new stuff once in a while on as new powders are always coming out. If you like the On brand protein stick with it. Its a good quality protein. Don't worry about your protien powder having a bunch of other things in it, buy them seperate and then you will know how much you are getting and can increase or decrease it without messing around with your protein. Or if you find out that something just isn't working for you, your not wasting money on it just because its in your protein.
Are you trying to get 1gram of protein per pound of body weight? The only way for you to do it might be to have another protein drink sometime during the day. Or have you looked in to protein bars? Most are pretty expensive and taste like crap but they are easy to carry around. Buy what ever Costco has for sale cheap and learn to like it |

I know they're not the best quality, but I'm loving these protein shots from wally world.
2 bucks, 26 grams, 2 carbs I think, taste great. Between those and gnc store brand whey, I'm happy and seeing results. I would buy some of the higher end stuff, but 1. I just don't care that much, and 2, i'm still primarily trying to lose weight. I don't want to add lots of mass. Just take care of whats there and help the arms a little. |

I love the ON brand powders. But just checking to see if anyone else has other suggestions they like. Staying away from bars just because they are expensive and like you said taste like crap!
I only need a little bit of the glutamine and creatine especially. The body will lower it's own production of creatine when supplemented with too much from food sources. Therefore, in simple terms, it can mess up your internal workings. So if I can get a small amount with the protein, less to order. More or less leaning towards the Pro Complex or Serious Mass right now. Both seem to contain very similar proteins, the Serious Mass just has some additives to make up more of a meal and I am border line needing the extra calories it would provide. |

I have always been a fan of Beverly International for many moons. I just reincorporated it into my plan. All the other stuff I tried over the years made me feel bloated. ON Whey Natural isnt that bad though. Quoted: @ recon Nope, no liquid diet. Just as a supplement to food when I do have one, otherwise it's as much whole foods as possible. |
| Do you mix your protein with milk? If you don't, do. Or if you already do, why not just change up to the next higher % of milk fat. I was using non-fat but years ago i changed to the 1% for the extra calories and because I actually wasn't getting enough fat in my diet. Might be an easy and cheap way to add 200 or 300 calories to your diet. And a couple of hundred calories might be all it takes to gain some lean mass. With those mass gain shakes its easy to over do it and get too many calories. |
