I had a double hernia surgery back in the middle of November. I asked the doctor about working out and he told me just to take it easy and if I feel something pull to stop. I've got a feeling that if I feel a pull it will be the hernia breaking through again and it'll be too late. The surgery was done laparoscopically if that matters. Mesh, or duct tape, or something was put over both hernias.

I'd like to start P90X, but I don't know if its safe to do so yet. Any ideas how long I should wait, or am I good by now?

I had hernia surgery back when I was 16 yrs old.  I was told not to lift anything heavy (more than 20-30lbs) for at least 2-3 months.  They put in that mesh piece for mine.  I would probably give it 1 more month then you should good to go.

Ask the doc for a recommendation on physical therapy, and the names of some therapists that he knows/works with.  If he has people he refers to, they can get an idea about where you should be focusing and how strenuous you should be.  I just got done doing phase 1 of post shoulder surgery.

Also had hernia with mesh placed in. Left a lovely 4in long scar. I was out of commission for 2 days before I was up and working. I gave it about 2 weeks before I started any physical activites, and eased in from there.

It really is going to depend on the person. I would follow the doctors recommendation, but different people will have different results and so on and so forth.

Take it slow and easy and you should be good to go.  My stepkid went to Basic Training 6 months after getting the mesh repair and had NO issues.
