I've been thinking about getting a heart rate monitor watch.  What's a good one to get?

Polar - pick the model with the least functions that satisfies your wants.

This looks pretty neat. Maybe a bit overkill for some people, though.

I love my 305.  Pace > HR for running, but the OP didn't say if it was for running or use on cardio machines.  It is a bit of overkill for use as just a HRM.

I would be using it for running.

Nike is coming out with a pretty sweet one this winter that will include HR moniter, touch screen and nike plus system.  If you can wait, id check it out.

Garmin Forerunner 305.  I have an older model and love it.  If it died today, I'd go buy a 305 in a heartbeat.

I have a Garmin 405. I used a Polar prior to the Garmin. It worked well, but I liked the 405's additional features.

Loving the 405 on anything from 1.5m PT runs to 12+ mile runs for my marathon training.

305 is the ticket then.  405 could be nice, but everyone I know who owns(ed) one hates it because of the bezel.  Lots of malfunctions/inadvertent actuations.

Apparently some people have issues with them if their hands are sweaty. I have no issues when my hands are wet/sweaty, and I sweat like a bitch on long runs. However, tonight, in the shower it did look like a disco party in there 'cause the water made it freak out as it hit the bezel.

+1 on the 305.  Love mine.
Except when it tells me my heart rate is too high/pace too slow.

As a training metric, pace>HR
