This seems to be the most common injury and most serious. I hear a lot about injuries and reference to doing exercises to prevent injury, but I think I've only read one article that described (without pics) exercises to do. Lets post as much info and links in this thread as possable about how to prevent rotator cuff injury and how to recover from it as well. Also: My shoulders "ratchet" when I move my arms around. I've been traning for 2 years and I just work with it. Does this sound like it is related to rotator cuff, or something else?

Messed up my left RC about 7 years ago now in a motorcycle crash. Didn't do anything about it until 3 years latter when it got much worse (felt like my arm was falling out of the socket). Did a month of PT and that helped, been watching what I do and being careful with it so it is almost as good as before. If you think you hurt it see the Dr. before it gets worse. I do a few sets of dumbbell lateral raises at the end of my workouts, low weight high rep. (per the PT) When the shoulder starts to bug me I use the thera bands and do all of those exercises (per the PT) I should probably do these every workout but have gotten lazy. I don't do any behind the neck lifts, or bench very heavy, also don't do any dumbbell flies. I weigh the risk with the gain. I also limit my shoulder workouts to lower weights higher reps. I can do pull-ups just fine, but I am careful at the bottom to not go limp on the dead hang. Again, if it is hurt see someone. It sucks to mess it up. |
I don't know what's causing it, but if all it's doing is making a sound, I wouldn't be too worried. I've never injured my rotator cuff, but I've come very close doing some goofy-ass wide-grip pullups. |

Reading this thread has made me believe I might have injured my rotator cuff. All I know is I was doing pull ups two days ago when my right arm started hurting so I stopped. I only feel a slight pain right now if I rotate my right shoulder a certain way or lift with it. I did situps yesterday too and it started hurting it so I stopped. Do you think it's my rotator cuff? Are there any upper body workouts that are safe to do or should I give it all a break? I'm a bit worried since I have a PT test next weekend, and pullups will be required

The doc said I have an impingement in my shoulder. Did PT for 3 months, this was two years ago, and it helped but to this day the last thing I would want to do is bench press. It seems to slip out of the socket now and again. Takes a week to get back to normal after that

My understanding was that you get impingment from moving a certain way? IE; there are certain things you shouldn't do and you won't get impingment. I was watching a show about this on public broadcast TV a few days ago. I sleapt through half of it though. Maybe you have a constant impingment, in wich case: it sucks to be you. Sorry man.

"Also: My shoulders "ratchet" when I move my arms around. I've been traning for 2 years and I just work with it. Does this sound like it is related to rotator cuff, or something else?" Has your shoulder ever popped out? Mine did several times one year and then everytime I would rotate my arm it would pop. Then I went to workout, and something pinched. Then everytime I would rotate my arm it would pop and felt like a lightning bolt going down to my finger tips. Come to find out my labrum in my shoulder was torn. Its not as bad as a rotator cuff but the surgery, recovery, and physical therapy hurt like hell. I'm good to go now with no problems. |
that's what my deal was, however mine still pops outs every once in a while and i give better forecasts than the weather channel
