I'm late to the party, but apparently there is some science that what you consume within two hours after a workout with a preferred mix of carbs and protien can help you with your recovery.

What should one eat/drink/consume after a workout?  I workout from 6:00 to 7:00 AM and generally eat an apple around 8:00 because the granola bar I ate prior to the workout has worn off and am very hungry.

I want to know what meals/drinks work better than others that eat at my desk or get from the company cafeteria (which has eggs, toats, omlets, etc.)

hard boiled eggs, maybe some lunchmeat and crackers, or a banana and peanut butter...i personally always try to get some carbs and as much protein in me as i can after my workouts, muscle milk is pretty good stuff too if you're into that.

Ideally, some kind of fruit and dairy proteins.  Both get absorbed very quickly which is the idea since you've gone and depleted yourself.

Realistically?  Eat what you want, when you want.*






*Whole food only.  McD's don't count.

Google turned up somebody that had suggested Chocolate Milk. Sounded interesting.

UofA conditioning staff encourages chocolate milk after training.  Better than gatorade, that's for sure.

The diet options are limitless...
My research has been that the best time frame window is under 1 hour and much more like 30 minutes max for optimum absorption.

I like a sliced Fuji apple and a couple tablespoons of creamy peanut butter.
