Issues: 1. I need to drop some weight. I'm doing cardio regularly and watching my food. Weight is coming off already. 2. I want help with portion control. If one bowl of cereal is good, 3 ought to be perfect. Yeah, that's my problem. 3. I like easy food I can take to work. I suck at packing my lunch. Lately, I've been bringing those tuna/light mayo/cracker things but I'm not sure how long I want to eat all that mercury. Downsides I see would be: 1. Preservatives. Bleh. 2. I can't eat Nutrisystem the rest of my life, so by the time I make it through $250 worth of it I need to have portion control solved. 3. When the food is gone, I'll still need to figure out what to eat at work. I can get 28 days of Nutrisystem for $250, or about $9 a day. Sounds fairly cheap to me, considering spending $9 on lunch is average for me if I pick it up. The 28 days includes all 3 meals and a snack. Yeah the food probably sucks but I'm not that damn picky. Also I'm sure it's full of salt, but I don't have high BP nor do I really care how much salt I get either. Opinions? |

As a stockholder I say you should go for it. Seriously, I think you really should go for it, for a month. 10 bucks a day really is cheap for 3 meals. The stuff they tell us as stockholders about their meals is they are tasty, and nutritious. After that, I think you might want to try something like south beach or something like Atkins lite. The portion control, is going to have to come from within. That's the hard part. Telling yourself no, and meaning it. ETA: You need to do a poll like in GD. Should I do Nutrisystem: A. Yes B. No C. I like pie. D. Nuke me from orbit it's the only way to be sure. |

I'm sitting on the same decision process myself. A $10 lunch that just adds lard, or 3 meals that may deplete lard reserves. Just a matter of taking the plunge... Unfortunately, it's gonna be for me and the wife, so it's more like $600/mo, which is ouch. Probably no more "ouch" than what we're currently doing to ourselves with food on the run, but the forward investment is difficult. Plus laying down the cash for what isn't included, dairy and veggies. I say go for it, and let me tag your post for results. Have a coworker's wife who's lost 35 lbs so far, which helps push me in the right direction... |
| I take a can of salmon, tuna or chicken (6 oz), raw broccoli with red wine vinegar, a handful of almonds and a banana or orange to work every day. Fills me up, very healthy (just not too much tuna because of the merc like you said), easy to pack and doesn't need to be refrigerated. Also provides good fat, veggies fruit (good carbs) and protein. |

The problem with diets such as this one is that they do not teach healthy habits. They also do not take into account the widely varying energy needs of different individuals... No two people are going to require the exact same range and depth of macro and micro nutrient intake. What happens when you get off this diet? The concepts of moderation and balance cannot be "taught" through a short term, $250 course. The idea that your entire lifestyle can be changed dramatically in that short of a time period is, at best, ludicrous. Bear in mind that commercial diets such as Nutrisystem exist to make money... Do they have your best interests in mind, or their's? OP, have you ever analyzed your diet to determine what you exact problem areas are? You state that you're already dropping weight through exercise and watching your intake. You're on the right track already... Moderation will come with time. Don't expect it to happen immediately. |
Sandwiches(there's a lot to choose from here). Wraps are great as well... Fresh fruit and vegetables. Salads trail mixes(make your own to avoid excess sodium and added sugar) Yogurt or cottage cheese Etc, etc. It's all about what you like and are willing to eat, though. What foods are you opposed to consuming(if any)? |
Have you ever had a Lean Cuisine frozen entree? It is about the same. Really, the big difference that I can tell between Lean Cuisine and Nutrisystem entrees is that Nutrisystem does not have to be refrigerated. FYI the menu I posted above is the men's 28 day menu. The women's is a little different. I picked the men's menu because it seemed like it have more protein stuff on it. My daughter ate one of the nutrisystem cookies and said it was good. |
Thanks!
