Ok so if you read my other thread you know that I have quit smoking, and am quite litterally working my ass off to get in shape. I have been eating as healthy as I can afford to. Basically I have grilled chicken breast with some veggies for dinner, and for lunch usually some soup, or a sandwitch. For breakfast I have a special K meal bar. During the time between those I am a hungry ass mofo. I have usually been snacking on wheat and cheese, or wheat, and peanutbutter crackers. I have been drinking tons of gatorade, and propel water, but I am still hungry all the time. Since I am working out so much is it okay to eat a little more even though I am trying to slim down? Not a whole lot more, basically I need some kind of food that is going to fill me up, and not be a meal. I don't know much about all the shakes, and stuff out there is there a powder or canned shake or something that might do that? |

I would suggest that you cut out a bunch of the carbs and sugars, and replace them with protein. You dinner sounds fine, some meat and veggies. Take a look at that special K meal bar and tell me how many grams of carbs and sugar are in it. Then read the ingredients. How far down is the HFCS on the list of ingredients? I know this is going to sound like heresy, but you probably would be better off eating bacon and eggs for breakfast. Follow that a couple of hours later with a snack of some fresh fruit, or a can of tuna. You lunch should be similar to your dinner. A meat and some veggies. Follow that a couple of hours later with some fresh fruit. That should give you 6 feedings a day, with plenty of protein which takes longer to digest than carbs, and should get rid of those hungry feelings. One more thing, you should ditch the gatorade and fitness water. Take a look at the ingredients, it is full of sugar. It's like drinking cokes but without the carbonation. Drink, unsweetened iced tea, or water. The sugars that are hidden in your diet are contributing to your hunger pangs. They run up the insulin in your bloodstream and then drop out fast. This leaves your body thinking it needs more, so it tells your belly that it is hungry again. If you replace most of the simple carbs (read sugar and HFCS) with complex carbs and protein, along with having smaller and more frequent meals. This won't happen. You can eat less and still feel full. |

Ok I see how the gatorade has a lot more sugar than I thought it did, but the propel water mix packets I have list the following per 16.0 oz. 10 calories 0 fat 30mg sodium 3g carbs 2g sugar 0 protein and a host of vitamin C, and B's. As far as the breakfast thing goes I have already decided to start eating yogurt, and fruit instead of the bars. I wish I like oatmeal, and whatnot, but I have always hated cereals, and oatmeals. |
| You need to eat less, but more often. I eat 3-4 hardboiled egg-whites for breakfast, a "nutrition" bar for a morning snack (Kashi is my favorite) a piece of lean meat for lunch, yogurt or a piece of fruit for an afternoon snack, another piece of lean meat (preferably from a different animal) with a veggie side, then some cottage cheese for an evening snack. I'm well below my maintenance calories but you eat so often that by the time you get hungry it's already time to eat again. |

See my comments in blue. Your diet looks great. Just remember to change things around about every 6 weeks, so your body doesn't get used to the routine, and you don't get tired of eating the same thing all the time. You might want to pick up a pair of suspenders, because if you lose 50 lbs. in 16 weeks, you are going to need them. |

I lost 40 pounds in the same time frame without altering my diet. Your diet looks good, especially if you enjoy it. If you keep working out, you will lose the weight in no time flat. My only suggestion would be to check your heart rate, figure out your target heart rate zone, and increase your cardio workout to about 30 minutes. If you work at your target heart rate, it takes about 20 minutes to get to a point where you REALLY start burning fat calories FAST. At 30 minutes, you have 10 full minutes of awesome calorie burn in your workout... and your target heart rate likely will not be a really difficult workout. Usually a light jog will get you there. Figure out your target heart rate zone here: exercise.about.com/cs/fitnesstools/l/bl_THR.htm Keep at it! None of your clothes will fit, and it's the best feeling ever (almost!)! |
