What's the general consensus on plain white rice? Good carbs? Bad carbs? Can't seem to get a straight answer with a Google search. |
Compare that to oatmeal, which most people agree are "good carbs".
You also have to remember that what you eat with the carbs has an effect on it's GI. A chocolate bar actually has a much lower GI than you'd think because the fat and protein in it causes it to be digested at a slower rate. So a rice dish with a protein and fat source will lower than GI number even further. My diet is actually centered around oats and rice as the carb source and I've had no problem dropping weight (20 lbs this year). RF |

Well, the more bleached the rice (or any grain), the less complete of a nutrient "package" it becomes. White rice is just plain, old complex carbs. Darker rices (again, all grains, really) can have additional fats and proteins. It's not terrible for you, but there are better things out there in terms of rounding or balancing out a diet. |

Try Lundberg organic long grain brown rice. Cook it with a couple cubes of chicken bouillon to taste. Also try McCann's steel cut oats. Add a sprouted wheat or flourless wheat bread and you're a triple threat for good health and a long life. They both grow on you if given the chance. I've actually become quite anal about what I put in my body. That coming from a guy who spent most of his adult life, MORBIDLY obese. |
