Hey guys, I'm looking to get the most I can get out of myself in a 2 minute PT test. The Academy is still a year off, so I'd like to improve more; although as is right now I'd be more than fine. I don't feel that I'm using the 2 minutes effectively. Right now I do 55-60 in the 2 minutes. My breakdown goes as follows: 1. Forty push ups at one push up a second pace (40 seconds) 2. Another ten or so in the next 20 seconds 3. Five, maybe eight in the last minute. Within that minute, I only use maybe 25-30 seconds at most. I feel stupid leaving 30 seconds unused, but at that point I'm just done. The reason I don't slow down is that I feel the shorter the amount of time your weight is on your arms, the more push ups you can get out. |
| What I do for pushups is do 200 a day, broken up into maximum rep sets. The bigger the number of reps in the set, the better, but even if they're small finish up the entire 200 reps. Just keep making the sets bigger and bigger. Eventually I get up to sets of 70-80, once got up to 100. |
Right now I'm doing 200 a day also, on top of my regular work out schedule. I'll do a max set, then sets of 30-40 to finish out the 200 over the course of the next hour or two. |
+1 Always push yourself, don't worry about the 2 minute thing right now, just push to muscle failure. I always tried to do a few more each time. Eventually you will feel like you can push for ever. If the academy is anything like the Army it won't matter if you can do 100 in two minutes because you're going to get smoked right before each PT test anyway Then there is the way they are counted: one two three three three four five six six six six... I always just did as many as I could possibly make myself do so I could better handle the smoke sessions, do that and the test comes easy.
