Judging from your post, you have the same problem I do... You push too hard, too fast. Your best bet is to stop and let it heal. Consult a doctor if possible. Just don't keep pushing like I did. Look for alternate exercises that won't aggrivate your knees. I found that I can still do my nightly core regimen and light weights. Since I've been unable to get my cardio from running, menial labor in the yard works well - pickaxe and shovel work is great exercise! |

Forgot to add. 150 (soaking wet) 5 10 The crappy thing is I'm currently a stocker at Petsmart and Im on my feet 8 hours a day on concrete floors. the bike fits good. I was told yesterday or the day before that i have high arches. WOuld having a shoe that didnt fit properly to my arches cause knee pain. The pain isn't unbarable and if i was going through the academy i wouldn't say a word about it just suck it up, put if i can stop the pain and prevent this through the academy i will be a very happy camper. Would running in H2O help with low impact on knee? |
Who told you your bike fits well?
Water running with a flotation vest is definitely zero impact, but it is boring and looks funny. Take a few days off, go to a reputable store for a stride analysis, and ice your knees after running. |

I have a friend who is in his mid 60s, and runs 40 miles a week, and is still going strong. I started running in my late 20s (after stopping after my military service) I ran 5 miles a day 5 or 6 days a week for a couple of years or so. I started having knee pain and cut back to 5 miles every other day for a couple of more years. It continued and I started dropping the distance to two miles... it continued and my doctor told my I had some mechanical misalignment (slightly bow legged), and to stop running. As time passed even after quitting running, stair climbing became uncomfortable. To shorten the story... last year the knee pain progressed to where it woke me up at night. Thinking I had old damage from running I went to a good knee specialist expecting a rebuild or repair. However, I was told the problem is advancing arthritis, and other than controlling the inflammation with medication, I can only wait until I must have knee replacement surgery. I am 53 and am told I "have the knees of a 70 year old". Bottom line. See a knee specialist now. It may be minor or it may be something like I ended up with, don't ignore the pain. Pain is often your body's way of telling you there is a deeper problem than over working out! |

so the doc told me that the bone on the inside of my knee (forgot the name) is swelled up, it also has alot of fluid built up in it. this is because 1. i'm bow legged 2. i've got high arches and my feet tilt inward when i stand. 3. i upped my workout to quick. he said time will make it better, and to swim and bike and lift weights, anything non impact on my knee joints, like running. He told me to ice the knees and take aleve 3 times a day. he wrote me a script for orthotics (spl?). told me that i was not built for running.... no crap... i could of told you that. i have another week off of no running then he said to start maybe 5 min. then 5 min the next week, until i'm were i need to be. orthotcis will take fing 3 weeks to come in, i get fitted for them on wend, going to see if i can get 2 pair, one for running shoes and one for my duty boots. run safe, lesson learned.... drive a car, can get their quicker and less wear and tear |

DON"T GO TO YOUR REGULAR DOCTOR!!!!! GO TO A SPORTS DOCTOR, there is a big difference. It's called specialties, A sports doctor will have you stop running, and do other exercises that will be as benificial, but without the continious damage to the inside of your knees. Continuing to run, with bad knees, will shift the problem to other areas of your lower legs, that will create and insticate other problems, not to include your hips, and even your shoulders, because of the weight shifting back and forth as you run. Talk to your doctor, have him refer you to a SPORTS DOCTOR that specializes in Knees. Just my opinion,,, |

Pretty sure it's ITBS. Feel for the IT band outside and above the knee, between your knee and hip. Know grab a wooden dowel and roll it across that area. It will hurt. But stretching that band before and after runs will get rid of your pain. I use a foam roller I got on Amazon. I too couldn't figure out what the heck was causing my knee pain until I finally did some research on Runner's World. |
