Due to a lack of exercise and too much good, lazy living I am now in rehab with disc problems in my neck and lower back. I have a good bit of weight to lose, and the diet prescribed by my doctor is working well.

In rehab they have a bunch of machines to use, and I am beginning to actually enjoy then, now that most of the pain is gone.

Problem is what to do whem I leave the rehab process and lose the use of thier equiptment. A local gym is out of the question due to my rural location. What I need to find is some compact equiptment to use at home, Space is at a premium here, so compact size is needed.

What recomendations does the group have?   Thanks... fullclip

Edit to add, I have a very good treadmill I use, just want stregnth as directed by the doctor for my shoulders and neck area....

How about a few sets of dumbbells at different weights? You can stow them under the bed or in the closet when not in use and there are plenty of exercises you can use them for.

How about some Powerblocks and a nice folding bench like this one from Hoist?

I own both of these pieces of equipment as I'm short on space as well. I'm sure some of the more experienced guys will back me when I suggest you can get a pretty decent workout from dumbbells and a bench.

Your bodyweight is about all you would need in addition to a pull up bar. Weights and machines are great for targeting super specific movements and muscle groups, but they really aren't a must have for a good workout.

I could have been more specific, I guess. The target area is the neck and shoulder muscles, espically the front shoulder muscles for rehab purposes. Then general all-over upper body. .. Thanks.. Fullclip
