Hey guys... Heres the deal. I am 24 years old, 6'4" 185lbs. 34" waist I recently lost about 40lbs over the course of a few months just by cutting out reg soda and all the junk food. I look 10 times better than I did, but I'm not quite where I want to be. I'd like to lean up a little bit, and gain some strength. I'm not looking to turn in a body builder. Heres the catch. I have hypermobility in my joints. Doc says no squats, never try to "max out" etc as my joints have a high chance of failing. They have done so in the past by merely raising my hand over my head in a fast manor, resulted in a torn labrum that required surgery to repair. What I really want is some strength and maybe a little mass. As you can probably tell, I am a noob. What I want is something I can do at home. Are these simple walmart specicals any good? Maybe for even getting into it? I can always upgrade later. Will 100lbs of weight be enough for my needs? Any suggestions would be great. My main concern is the joints, and trying to preserve them for the future. Thanks! -Jared |

swim or, run and lift weights (but lift moderately, and avoid exercises that aggrivate your joint problems... Do a lot of rehab-type strengthening exercises to strengthen the little muscles around your knees/shoulders etc. This might let you work up to doing a little heavier weights on your "main", big muscle lifts without risk of injury) talk to a real physical therapist and get some ideas there. It's probably much more reliable than anything you'd get here. |
