I started seeing a personal trainer once a week at the gym. Now that I have a better clue on what kind of routine to do, I am hooked and constantly want to go to the gym. Is this normal?

I lifted in my first event at age 16.  I am now 39 and lifted in my last event 2 years ago.  Other than injury my longest time out of a gym, in those 23 years or so, was about 2 weeks.  So I guess my answer would be yes it is normal.

As soon as I start to feel those endorphins and test increase, start to see results, I'm addicted.  At least until the next addiction comes along.

It's defenitely fun now that I know proper form and types of workouts - I've seen gains, although they are small for now but it's still a gain. I plan on sticking with it and hopefully those gains grow over time.

A good key to help yourself stick with it, is to set small incremental goals with the weights or small realistic body changes.  Achieving small goals quicker is more rewarding than setting unrealistic goals and feeling like your not making fast enough progress.  Change things up often and have fun with it.

Definetly, It takes time though, longer than one might expect usually...

I'm addicted to guilt avoidance, does that make sense?

Whenever I miss a workout or a run I feel like I let myself down, and I beat myself up until I have my next workout/run.

So far as the actual workout or run, I don't enjoy it. I feel great when I'm done and get a sense of accomplishment for having done it. I guess I'm addicted to the feeling I get when I finish.

Follow?

I've already been given lots of shit because I use a trainer. They all say, "ooooh, a personal trainer, eh?" I just see it as a wise investment.

Ummm, that wasn't the type of comments that I was referring to.

I heard a guy say, if he were in a bar fight, he wanted those 3 with him.  He was referring to me and 2 other guys.  I was old enough to be the dad of the other guys.

I was in a bar a couple of weeks ago talking to a barmaid.  We were talking about beer prices, since they just went up.  I told her that I liked them when it was 35 cents for a draft, and 50 cents for a bottle.  She asked me how old I was.  When I told her, she told me that she thought I was in my late 30s.

Those kind of comments.

Keep working out, you will hear them.
