Is it an issue to do pushups, pullups, and situps daily? Should this be done daily? Is it bad to do this on a daily basis?

In theory, working the same muscle groups (to failure) is not a good idea. Your muscles need time to recover. Now, depending on your goals, it is okay. For instance, for my soldiers that require a little extra assistance in PT, either before or after our morning PT sessions, we'll do a quick set of 30-40 push-ups and 40-50 sit-ups concentrating on form, rather than speed. We do this by keeping strict form, but also instead of falling down on the push-ups or falling back on the sit-ups, like we would on a PT test, we hold through the negative part of the exercise. In the evenings, we tend to do more weight training or "sports" PT. All my soldiers have strict instructions that every night, they need to do 40 push-ups and 50 sit-ups before going to bed. My from current SGM, if they do nothing other than the 40/50, they'll do fine on their PT test. Results have proven it. My team's average PT score about 3 months ago was 230. As of this morning, it's now 263. I'll take that any day. 10 points per month is solid progress. Rich |

I see everyone talking push ups and sit ups but no one saying anything about pull ups. I'm like queer for pull ups. I do them a lot. I like to do them. I usually do them 2 or 3 days a week, depending on how I feel, or what else in the gym I am doing. I like to alternate between supinated and pronated grips to give everything a good workout. I also like to alternate between doing pull ups and overhead pressing. This gives the whole shoulder/arms a good workout. I usually do 4-5 sets of 12-15 bodyweight reps. Oh, don't do them everyday, or if you do, only do like one set. |
