| Is there anyway that I can increase my matabolism? I'm kinda big and I hear that people with higher metab burn fat much quicker. A buddy of mine can eat a whole box of pizza and still be skin and bones. Any way that I can increase it? |

If you cant eat the whole box of pizza now with no reprocusions, you probbaly wont ever be able to. However, you can up your metabolism a good deal with some work. 1. eat 6 small meals spaced evenly throughout the day rather than 2-3 big ones. 2. eat the most complex carbs you can get. I can eat a lot more when I am eating sweet potatoes or oats. 3. workout/excersise regularly. You will be in a heightened state of metabolism so to speak for about 8hrs. after a good workout. It is not night and day, but I can eat at least 500 extra cal/ day when following these steps. |

Killingmachine speaks the truth. Something that a lot of people do which really drops their metabolic rate is skipping breakfast. You need to eat soon after you wake up to bring your body out of the metabolic slump from sleeping. Many people, myself included, don't really like the idea of eating lots of solid food in the morning. My appetite just isn't there. If this is the case then drink a protein shake. Morning workouts are also a great way to get your metabolic fires going for the rest of the day. If your work/life schedule permits, working out in the morning and in the afternoon will rev your body up twice. If you are trying to cut weight, don't fall into the trap of only doing cardio workouts. Lifting weights changes your body's hormonal status (more testosterone and growth hormone) so that more of the weight you lose will be stored fat rather than muscle. When you do cardio, opt for high-intensity interval workouts rather than lots of low-intensity work. Several recent studies have shown that interval training is superior to long slow distance work due to the more profound effect it has on your metabolism after your workout. It also builds both aerobic and anaerobic endurance simultaneously and takes less time. If, and only if, your diet and exercise programs are in place, adding some caffeine in the morning and afternoon will raise your metabolic rate slightly and cause you to burn more fat when you exercise. This is only the case if you aren't already immune to it's effects due to a high chronic caffeine intake though. Many people take caffeine or caffeine/ephedra supplements without doing much to alter their diet and exercise levels. This is worthless because they only help out a little bit.
