I live in Glen Burnie Maryland.  I want to look into learning some kind of martial arts to defend myself and family.  In a perfect world I would have time to train every week.  But I am working full time plus taking graduate college courses and weight training with a friend at lunch during work.  After I get finished my grad school work I would like to start.

What style would you say is the most useful for a quick and dirty defence of ones self.  I don't want to fight in any kind of competition.  I just want stuff that will save my life and make the attacker wish they hadn't f'ed with me.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.  I hope I get some answers from you.  Congrats to those losing weight, keep it up.

I've heard good things about Krav Maga. Supposed to be no-nonsense, flexible and adaptable to individual abilities. Might be BS, but it's what I've heard.

Here's the official website :

and the closest location to you :

I studied Wing Chun for a while and loved it, but it doesn't sound like what you're looking for.

Good luck.

Brazilian Jui-Jitsu is the ONLY real life applicable style, the rest is Holly-Wood Crouching Tiger bullshit! Don't believe me...watch all the Ultimate Fighting Championships and World Combat Championships! Then you will learn.

Grappling is important, but I would recommend training at a quality Muay Thai place if you're looking for quick and devastating techniques.
