I'm 43 years old, a few years ago I had my gall bladder removed. The operation required that they cut me open from the lower chest to past my belly button. Since then I have had great difficulty climbing stairs. The other day I slipped and fell in the bathroom and had to crawl on my hands and knees to the bedroom where I was able to used my bed as support to hoist myself up. I'm too young to be so weak. Any advice?

Is your lower body the only half that is weak, or is it your entire body?
Consult with your doctor to prevent re-injury or aggravation of past surgical incisions.

My father went through a similar surgery at about your age. He has trained with weights most of his adult life. As a result of the surgery he has had five hernias and repairs. This is something you need to pay very close attention to if you start using weights. I think you need to get started with some brisk walking and gentle stretching and work up from there. But seek your doctor's advice first to make sure everything else is OK.

I would see my doctor and explore some physical therapy options.
