Has anybody tried Matt Furey's programs?  Looking for some insight.

I like Furey's workout - its very simple, quick and offers an amazingly complete workout.  His book primarily offers derivations of three basic exercises and his "take" on building strength and conditioning.  If you won't need all the derivations until later in the program unless you're already in good shape.

which book do you recommend?  The three exercises are the Hindu pushup, hindu squat and the bridge.  Or Am I wrong?

The book I referenced was "Combat Conditioning" - I don't recommend the book.  If you know the three exercises that's really all you need.  Depending on your shape, it will likely be a while before you need the variations the book lists.

Here is a pretty good article on the workout.

Very short, very intense, very humbling work outs.

I am using them now, and While I think the book is overpriced, I am glad I have it.

I am doing the Royal Court after sitting on the couch since getting out of the Army in 98.

Ouch!

Anyway, I am doing the excercises based on the web site listed above, but it doesn't say if your supposed to spring up off the ground in the Hindu squat or just come up and keep your feet on the ground.

Springing up seems to get me going better, but of course it reduces the cardio benefit because I get to failure much more quickly.

I started regular pushups and situps 4 weeks ago/Royal court 2 weeks ago and am now doing:
4 x 30 seconds bridge (would be more but I have a neck injury from my time in the Army)
40 Hindu Squats without jump or about 2 x 20 with jump

1 x 20 Hindu Pushups
2 x 10 Hindu Pushups

I complete the entire court in 20 min with 5 min recumbent (sp?) bicycle warm up/down on each side.

Considering I am starting at the POS slug stage 5'8" and about 257, any help on form or execution would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
NS6

For the Hindu Squat, you only come up on the ball of your foot lifting your heels when squating down, no jumping.

When you do jump, it is called Hindu Jumper Squats. You jump forward 6" for 1 rep and then jump back 6" for another rep, and so on.

I have not done the Jumper sqauts. For now I am just sticking with the regular ones. I try to do the Royal Court 3 times a week. So far I am up to:
1x150, and 1x100 Hindu Sqauts
5x10 Hindu Pushups
3x1min neck bridge

I am still working to touch my nose on the bridge. The arches of my feet get pretty fatigued after 100 squats. And the pushups are a lot harder than I thought, but my tricepts seem to be getting harder. I like the workout so far. I will usually do it in the morning or after kenpo class. Sometimes I go mountain biking after the squats, which feels great the next day[xx(]. I have been doing it for a little over a month and continue to improve.

Great, thanks for the info!

is the order you listed them the order you actually perform them in and does it make a difference?

I am thinking I should move the bridge to last like you have listed because my muscles will be warmer but am concerned about the higher heart rate and them turning myself upside down.

Thanks again,
NS6

I do them in the order I have listed: Hindu Squats, Hindu Pushups, and then Neck Bridge.

That is also the way they are listed in the book. I have not noticed any problems doing the bridges last, but I do give myself a small rest between sets. In the past I have done the hindu squats first, then I would do 1 set of pushups followed by 1 set of bridges and do this for 2-4 sets.

I don't think it makes a difference what order you do them in, but I do like doing the sqauts first. I have considered doing the squats one day and doing the pushups and bridges the next. I think the squats tire me out a bit for the pushups.

Thanks LoganW I really appreciate your help!

I am going to try them in the order you have listed as soon as I get over this small bout of illness I came across.  Hopefully tomorrow I will be well enough to get back to it after 2 days off.  I needed to let my muscles recoup anyway.  My overall plan will be to run m-w-f and royal court t-th-s.  I think it will be just what this disgusting fatbody needs to get back in fighting shape.

Thanks Again,
NS6

I got the book "Combat Conditioning" two weeks ago and have been using the exercises every week day.  So far I think the Hindu squats are good.  The Hindu pushups are good too but that bridge... I fail to see any real benefit to it.  The man is definetly right about body weight exercises.  One summer I did 50 pushups when I got up in the morning, 50 before lunch, 50 before supper and 50 before I went to bed on weekdays.  Best my upper body ever looked.

Has anyone tried his book on stretching?
