| My wife bought me a set for Christmas. Am I going to die? |
I've been riding on rollers for quite some time. They don't take too much practice to get used to. Make sure to put down a mat under the back wheel portion lest ye enjoy practicing your "carpet sprints" . Put it up next to a wall when you get started, get on and ride like normal. You'll love them!

Put them in my basement, between a wall and my incline bench. Fell over sideways once when the bench slid after I leaned on it (forgot how slick the tiles are) but otherwise so far so good.
I am riding with sneakers instead of clip shoes until I get a little more comfortable. |
Do you have a power meter on your bike? Or even a cadence sensor would work. If it's bluetooth or ant+ compatable you should look into Zwift. It's a ton of fun. ![]() Zwift - Online Interactive Turbo Trainer |

Doorways work well when you first begin. Unless you have a resistance unit, rollers are mostly good for working on balance and cadence as well as a way to keep an indoor recovery session interesting. Don't focus on your front wheel; focus on the wall in front of you and intermittently scan down to your front wheel.
Since there is not much resistance, ride a big gear. The more angular momentum in your wheels, the more stable you'll be. You'll eventually be able to drink water during your session I still won't ride my tri bike on the rollers though. |
