I was out doing errands this afternoon and out of curiosity I decided to stop by a place called UFC Gym. I ended up with a free class this coming Monday after work (Daily Ultimate Training: an hour long and it seems like a full-body bootcamp type workout). Anyone familiar with the franchise?

I was thinking it would be a nice change from lifting and basic cardio. Only problem is the price... if I heard the guy correctly, he said it was $199 to join and $80 per month Unlimited classes though and a free pair of training gloves.

Good to know; I've never been a member at a gym that offered classes. I currently only pay $20 a month so that $199 + $80 a month seemed a bit high.

depends on what classes but my wifes are $150-$180 for 8-10 weeks depending on the specials.  gloves, bags, weights, sparring, etc.  No jui jitsu or anything but the guy that runs the class turns out "worldclass" athletes in kickboxing, mma, and tae kwon do.

By world class I mean on a national level and mostly kids.

I'd much rather pay $80 for unlimited MMA style training than 3 crossfit classes a week for $150/month.

These days, that's pretty reasonable unfortunately.

Decent price if you are into training as a fighter. I wouldn't sign any contracts unless I were sure of my interest in it, though. But if you're committed, go for it.

Here's the class schedule for this week to use an an example:

I can't make any of the classes on weekdays until after 5pm.

The name "ufc gym" would be enough to make me skeptical.

Grappling is worthless in a real engagement and against multiple attackers and when fighting in the street or when fighting in lava or against poisonous snakes.

Are they real training classes or more like cardio kickboxing?

Most of them appear to be cardio type but they do have the advanced mma and advanced boxing classes which look like a lot of instruction and sparing. I'm really just looking to do the cardio type classes and throw in an mma class once in a while.

I just learned they do BJJ classes, but none are being offered this week on the schedule.

So I survived... The class I did (Daily Ultimate Training) was basically an hour of calisthenics. Definitely a good workout but something you could do on your own.

Regardless of being able to do the class on my own without having to pay, I think I'm going to fo and join. The class environment (and eye candy) was a pretty good experience that I want more of.

That's awesome, wish I had a local place to learn stuff like that.
