For about the last 2 weeks I have been having a green smoothie for my breakfast meal (2 cups spinach, 2 cups almond milk, 1 whole banana).  They are quick and easy and I really enjoy them.  My questions are basically is this a good idea and would maybe adding a scoop of say chocolate protein powder be good or bad? I have not started going to the gym yet as I have some financial issues that once they are squared away I'll be purchasing a membership and this plan right now is for losing some of the large amount of weight I have put on over the past couple years.

If it matters my lunch has been consisting of some chicken breasts and some brown rice.  Dinner is then usually some meat, asparagus, and a small serving of mashed potatoes.

Why add protein?  If you're not needing the protein/calories for repair of lifting/exercise... Why add it?

As always... It depends on goals...

Right now the goal is simply weight loss.

Ive been doing breakfast shakes for a good year now and add a scoop of protein with a banana and milk. The protein keeps me from getting too hungry before lunch but the shake does jump start the metabolism and I am needing to eat something again by mid morning. Im not trying to bulk or reduce, just be healthy but in the weight loss aspect, I probably wouldnt add protein, just add another good snack before lunch.

Care to explain?
Protein=Calories

Pure weight loss?--- Limit calories.    It's true that a protein predominant diet will increase weight loss, but with that said; Calories still count...  Protein can help to stave off muscle breakdown which might help preserve lean body mass while helping lose fat...
