I did a search and didn't see a thread regarding apps and software for tracking, scheduling, etc. nutrition and exercise.

Is there one in particular that stands out?

Or a couple that work well together?

I signed up for it, and started plugging in my calories and then went to plug in my exercise and it wasn't terribly helpful with that.

I use JEFIT to log all of my lifts. You can setup custom workout programs and just about every exercise is in there.

I use LoseIt.  It's pretty good, has calories and exercises and is free.  Also free without ads.

Not sure on how others compare, I have never used any other apps for fitness.

I use myfitnesspal to track my macros, but I don't use the numbers they calculate.

Go to http://iifym.com/iifym-calculator/ to figure out your macro's based on your exercise level, then plug those numbers into myfitnesspal. You don't even really need to track your exercises as it is already figured from the macro calculator. Use them for about a month and see how your body responds. If you want to lose more weight eat less calories...gain more weight...eat more calories.

It has helped me stay focused and eat what I need to eat to gain weight. Got to 190 this year....most I've ever weighted in my life. Now I'm shooting for a lean 200 lbs. by the end of 2014.

I'm going to dabble with Myfitnesspal and Jefit for a while until I know more about what I'm looking at I think.

I recommended Jefit for keeping track of workouts but it also lets you keep track of body measurements.
