| It looks like a great agility exercise, but with an increased chance of shoulder injuries for less than advanced athletes. Do any of you do them regularly? What are your thoughts? |

nah, we know once you have to do some metcon stuff you'll be sucking wind. I have a set of rings and a rope hanging in my living room. Quoted:

Don't have access to rings. I like them. Pisses the CF guys off to see a meathead bust them out. nah, we know once you have to do some metcon stuff you'll be sucking wind. I have a set of rings and a rope hanging in my living room. Like Bring Sally Up as Rx'd? |

I have some reduced flexibility in my left shoulder due to a surgery but have never had an issue with MU whether on rings or on a bar. Sometimes if i'm doing strict ones I'll start to feel it in my wrist. I'm not a small guy so I start to burn out in the dip, the kip is just technique.
I'd say if you can do consistent ring dips then MU shouldn't be an issue for your shoulders. |
| If you learn to do them from a dead hang without some crazy ridiculous kip, the strain on your shoulders will be significantly reduced. And you can look over at the crossfit nerd about to pull the rack down because he has it kip so hard and ask, "Why do you do it like that" |
|
After learning the false grip, I started doing them strict while deployed on a submarine. I can do about 5 strict ones, no idea for Kipping as I can't get rings high enough anywhere.
Also wait for the open and we can all compare scores to see who really is the fittest |

To me they are kind of a gimmick more than an actual exercise. Ive seen a couple guys at very different levels of fitness get hurt attempting to execute. The juice just isnt worth the squeeze.
Disclaimer: Ive been doing functional fitness for over 4 years now, but I still consider myself little better than an advanced novice so take that into consideration with my opinion. Hell, 13 year old girls do far more dynamic exercises without injury so... |
