So whats the deal with the upper/lower/inner/outer/sternal/clavicular head of the pectoral muscle?
What is myth and what is fact? Are declines bullshit? Is my upper chest too small? Should I sell my bench and do more curls? After a recent argument with a friend and some googling it seems there are still quite a few people out there who still adhere to circa 1970s Weider style training. From my understanding, for the most part, its what I would consider antiquated. Is anyone else still trying to shape their outer pecs? My question is this. If someone asked you if dumbell fly's are better for shape or strength, and how do you shape your outer pecs, to which you reply "bullshit" then goes on to tell you it is in fact possible to isolate upper lower inner outer regions of the pectorals, how do you respond? |

Declines recruit more chest. Fact- Pecs flex and adduct the humerus. Declines are slightly better at this per EMG results than flat and incline. Though you can't train "upper and lower" pecs, you can load them asymmetrically transmitting loads through the tendons in an asymmetric fashion-- leading to more work that potentially could be done by different parts of a muscle... though the real benefit?... |
