A little bit but regular squats work your hamstrings more....hack squat put more load on your quads like front squats.

romanian deadlifts are good if you want to work on hamstrings.

If you want stronger hamstrings, practice compound lifts with hip extension (deadlift and its variations).

Only ATG and below parallel squats involve your hammies, and when they do it isn't a ton.

What I don't understand is a Bob hack squat and DL start out kind of in the same way. With the back squat you're just in front of the bar. Why doesn't that hit hams as well? Just curious..

Hack squats are back load, versus a dead lift being front load.

I get mainly quad engagement on hack squats, with hams and glutes secondary.

film yourself doing both.  You will notice the start is not as close as you think.  The BB hack squat the knee angle is close more and the hip angle is open more.  In the deadlift the hip angle is closed more and the knee angle is more open.  The quad striaghten the knee and the glutes/hamstrings straighten the hips.  That is also why the front squat is much more quad dominate.
