Here's the deal I've lost about 140 pounds since 2011 and maintained a weight between 155 and 165 for the last year and a half. I go to the gym and stay active, but I'm not fit or ripped. I've been obsessed with backpacking since I was a kid, and have done over 1400 miles of the Appalachian Trail. I've decided my mid life crisis is going to be an attempt at the Triple Crown of Backpacking. In one year I'm going to try to hike all 3 major long distance backpacking trails in the US.
Here lies my problem, every trainer I've gotten with tries to get me to bulk up and put on muscle when what I need is to get super lean and beef up my legs and core. The kicker is that my lungs only operate on about 30% of normal capacity due to some birth defects. Running of any real distance is out as well as swimming, I don't have buoyancy because of my lungs and sink like a rock. Can anyone suggest some training programs that might help me? |
