My family is interested in a tread climber, looking for actual experience before I pull the trigger on a 3K machine.  That would buy a lot of ammo.

Thanks,

OPS

you do what you want, but I could build a bitchin home gym for half that... I know, maybe I'm biased but I just can't fathom spending $3k on a machine that does ONE thing when I could spend that money of a few basics and be able to do everything.

Damn I could get an Eleiko bar and competition plates and still have about $1,200 left over. $400 for a squat rack, ~$200 for a bar to do other lifts with (fyi you go to hell if you put an Eleiko bar in a squat rack). $200-400 to build a kickass pullup bar and a little left over to build a platform and a few other odds and ends.

Yeah, I WISH I had $3k to spend on a home gym.

No kidding. A guy could build a bad ass gym for $3k. A guy could build a very adequate gym for $1k.

I've spent most my life buying used equipment from Play It Again Sports I couldn't images spending 3k on a single purpose machine. I've used tread climbers before, fun and all but I never considered it a main workout out. It was something I did at the end of a workout for fun.

I would spend that kind of money on a Hack Squat machine though if I just for some reason had extra money laying around.

I'd buy a good, I mean real good squat rack or power lifting cage, a solid bar or 2 and about 500lbs in assorted iron plates (unless you want to oly lift the get some bumpers). Then I'd probably get dumbbell sets from 15lbs up to 100lbs. Oh, and a really good bench with a total capacity around 1000lbs. Beware of most shitty home benches, there total weight capacity is usually only around 400lbs... Not too great for a 200lb male benching 200lbs...

But hey that's just me

Oh never mind the comment about using a tread climber before.... I was thinking of something else...

This is what I thought you were talking about, this I've used and what my comments were geared towards.

That said, yeah I wouldn't spend 100 bucks on a tread climber personally much better ways to workout. Hell, get an 18" box, slap on a heavy pack and do some step ups for an hour

I have one and use it 30 min. 6 times a week.  It gets my heart rate up better than a tread mill.
I would rather hike but the tread climber is handy.  I bought mine used off Craigslist for $750 like new with a few close hanger marks on it.
I like it but not for $3k.

Like others have said $3000 could get you a hell of a lot of equipment.   You could build a box to step up on for $30 and accomplish the same goal.  And buy $2970 worth of ammo.  It's not about the equipment it's about the motivation.
