| I finally did a pullup tonight, I have never been able to do one before even when i was a child due to being a disgusting fatbody, but tonight i finally was able to do one. It was actually fun. I need a better place to do them Than on my back porch roof support though. |

I shipped to Parris Island just barely doing the minimum 3 pullups. Until my company left for the rifle range in 2nd phase, the DIs made me do pullups to failure every time I used the head. Sometimes that just meant me hanging there flopping like an idiot for several seconds and not getting a single one.
I don't remember how many I got on the final PFT but it was several above the "max" score of 20. So I say hang a pullup bar outside your bathroom and hit it every time you take a leak. |
<- couldn't do them as a kid either
ETA: I got a door mount bar for my room (not optimal but it works) and I found a beam at work (warehouse) which can pass for a bar. I generally knock out small sets here and there of both pull ups and chins, especially first thing in the morning and right before/after meal breaks. Also try alternating sets of chin ups/pull ups and military style presses(near top of your lifting range). Don't do them to failure every time, more like 75% of max reps with sets spaced out through the day. I know the last part doesn't apply to you yet but it will and pretty sure you'll be knocking out sets of 5, 10, 20 or more and making it look easy. Be warned, averagebodies might be jealous

Nice Job...just keep practicing them every chance you get. Every time you go out on the porch try a pull and some negative like someone said. Also don't do kip pullups they don't count. Kipping pull-ups aren't all bad..... but yes, they don't count (to a point) while practicing though, they'll let you do more than you can do deadhang - a good thing |

You are correct if he's running an official USMC PFT. Good job OP. If you're kipping, wait until your shoulders are stronger then kip...but also do deadhangs and weighted. It's good to do all variations with an emphasis on weighted and deadhangs.
