I'm going for an MRI due to a suspected SLAP tear on my right shoulder.  I'm able to complete full workouts with parts in question, but I pay for it with pain, stiffness, and catches later.  What can I expect if that's the case and I opt to have it scoped?

I had a contrast MRI earlier in the week, the results indicated no tear, labram, rotator cuff, or otherwise.  I have an appointment set up for another injection, this time into the joint itself, Ido hope that clears the problem up.

PT.  Depends on how bad it is and how good the repair is but it will take some months of rehab.

I've had three of them now, all three required surgery, but the last two were also because I ripped up my rotator and biceps tendon. Surgery was pretty benign, spent 6 weeks in a sling, then did a few months of therapy and I was back at it.

My advice is to take it really easy with it for a while, don't try to do too much too soon. There's time for that later, and if you push it too much from the start you might screw something up big time.

How soon were you in rehab?

Torn ACL, right shoulder. Didn't show on the MRI.
Went in for a decompression, ended up with a SLAP repair.
They drive the pin in with a tool that looks (and feels) like a dent puller.

Couldn't lift my arm above my chest at first.
Eight weeks PT, x3 weekly.
Started that about one month after surgery.

Yes. Complete recovery took five years.
Considering I couldn't shave, comb my hair or reach into my back pocket with that hand before surgery and therapy.
And although healed, it will never be the same and the ortho admonished me that it'll be arthritic when I get older.

I stretch every once in a while.

The shoulder stiffens up when the weather changes.
