What are the general opinions? I have a respitory infection and it is killing me not being able to do a lot. I can barely do a third of my normal routine. What do you guys do when you get the bug?

I rest if I have a fever, but will push through a head cold at reduced intensity.

I'm on 5/3/1, so when I'm feeling really shitty I just do the I'm Not Doing Jack Shit Today routine of just hitting my main lift for the day.

I would ask that you don't go to the gym so you don't pass it to the rest of us. Just courtesy.

As for what *I* do. Easy. Ingest lots of water and get as much rest as possible. It's how your body heals, why the fuck would I think about weakening my immune system by taxing it with workouts? Seems silly. It's not like I'm going to lose anything by taking a week off.

I've read that a reduced effort workout while sick actually boosts your immune response but I dont remember where I read it.

Maybe. I can see a good brisk walk or something. I just don't think spending all your energy trying to get a full workout in is good for anyone involved.

If you do have a gym that is not occupied in the morning where you don't have to risk others getting sick I will typically go sit in the sauna for a few mins to try and sweat a little.  You must hydrate before and after or you will be doing more harm than good.  Emergen-c from sams or walgreens will really help supplement your immune system too.

Man for the first couple of days I was sucking down Airborne like it was going out of style. Then I had to pee every couple of minuets, so i slowed down a little

When people get really sick and go to the hospital what happens?

You get laid down, take a bunch of drugs, and stay put until the doctor wants your ass to leave.

I'd recommend laying down and doing what every other normal person on the planet does when they get sick.  That "fighting through" bullcrap doesn't work when you are sick and it weakens your immune system causing a more severe and long term illness.  So you have two options

1. Rest and get better sooner and keep sickness from getting worse

2. Fight through and get sicker longer and more severe

Yeah, ok...

If you have fucking pneumonia then yeah... Go to a doc and get done Abx and rest up but still get up and go for easy walks. If you can't fucking breath then go to the hospital and get done IV Abx and some O2...

But if you are a healthy adult with a head cold, workout. Reduce the intensity if you want, probably a good idea but light exercise has been proven to BOOST your immune system.

If you have a fever then then rest up and stay hydrated.

But if you decide to rest up, no worries.

Stretch, skill/form work, get warmed up enough to get a pump and break a slight sweat, but that's it.    If I feel really bad, or it is the first few days of it, I rest.

Yep, the rest of us don't want your germs. If you want to workout, do it at home at a much slower pace

right, but it doesn't actually do anything to prevent illness in any useful manner.
