Back in November I developed some discomfort in my groin.  There was no specific incident I can tie it to, but it may have been during a max on deadlift.  There was no "oh shit" moment that let me know I was injured.  To be blunt, it felt like a pressure just behind my left testicle, along with a sort of tingle in the perineal area.  After the next time I squatted, I started to get a dull pain in the left testicle, also.  I stopped squatting and doing deads for a couple of weeks, but noticed that using a lot of leg drives in other lifts aggravated things.  Figuring I had a hernia, I went to see my GP.  He did an exam, and found no bulging or obvious weak spots.  While palping the inside of my thigh, I felt some moderate pain just behind the mid-line, a few inches down the leg.  He diagnosed it as an adductor injury, and said to just avoid heavy lifting for a couple of months.

I didn't squat or do deads for a month and a half, and found the pain and discomfort subsided.  I tried a simple warm-up on squats after that period (either to 195 or 225, I can't remember) and felt no obvious pain or discomfort during.  I decided against a work set, just so I could gauge things.  The next day, I had a lot of pain in my inner thigh, right where it occurred during the exam, and quite a bit of the same discomfort and tingling in the perineal area.  This lasted about three days.  Since then, I have had mild discomfort after most of my workouts, typically worsening after I use a lot of leg drive in my bench, or bent rows.  I actually tried throwing in deads in the last few weeks, as the pain seemed manageable.  I lowered the weight significantly from where I was.  Surprisingly, after my first set at 315, I didn't have any additional discomfort the next day.  However, the day after a set of 345, I started feeling it again.  I haven't even tried squats again.

So, I would like to know if anyone else has dealt with this.  If so, were you able to remedy the problem, and how?  Should I get a second assessment by a specialist, in case it is more than a mere adductor injury?  If so, should it be with an orthopaedist, or a sports-medicine provider?  Also, is there anything I could be doing in the meantime to keep my legs from becoming too weak, while not exacerbating the injury?  My quad measurements are woefully inadequate as it is.  At least I can still work on my calves...

The adductor diagnosis doesn't offer much explanation for the paresthesia or pain referred to the scrotum.

Scrotal pain, and certainly altered sensation, can be associated with disc injury.  Any sign or symptom in the perineal area of nerve irritation is nothing to ignore -it is in fact a "red-flag" described to low-back patients.

I'd say second opinion -or at least another eval with your PCP, during which you suggest referred disc pain.  I'm a chiropractor so I'd suggest a good chiro.

If you have any questions you can IM.  These threads often devolve so I don't immerse myself in them.

Take care.

^ this.  The feeling you describe is not normal and a 'red-flag' as stated.  Second opinion is necessary.  I would suggest asports orthopedic doc or somebody more knowledgeable than a PCP in sports related injury.

I hadn't considered anything vertebral, although I have considered referred pain.  I know when I had some sciatic impingement, I would get a very powerful burning sensation in my quad.

I should also add that I do feel a bit of swelling on the inside of my left thigh, particularly when it rubs against the other.  After I run, it feels a bit more pronounced.
