I know what I need to do, but honestly I need an ass kicking and some accountability to see it through.

Here is where I am:
-30yo, 6'4", 253lbs, broad shouldered "big guy" but as far as I am concerned, there is no real mass, and there is absolutely no stamina.

Here is where I have been:

-18yo, 6'4", 235lbs, 30" waist, 295lbs bench 4.8sec 40 time. I'm a Navy Seal's wet dream (as well as every college football/lacrosse coach)
-20yo 6'4" 185lbs, not doin' too hot (heart problems and major back problems resulting in surgery). Pretty good stamina but looked like a pile of dog shit that an elephant scraped off his loafers.
-23yo 6'4" 230lbs, getting soft. Stamina OK
-25yo 6'4" 217lbs, got dumped, not getting laid, life sucks....hit the gym.....getting stronger...OK stamina
-29yo 6'4" 230lbs, got a beer gut, but overall looking healthy. Stamina sucks
-30yo 6'4" 253lbs, started putting on weight, couldn't stop. Got to 258 then really started watching all intake for fear of the many complications that can arise

My goals are:

-Increased stamina
-Increased energy
-Increased strength (especially in the legs/butt)
-Fat loss
-Increase in shoulder and upper chest mass. Even when I was down to 185 I had issues with "bitch tits". It is supremely embarrassing, and it really, really sucks, especially since I had to deal with them when I was in fantastic shape....but I'd love any info on reducing the effect, short of surgery. Surgery may be an option in the future, but for now I'm no longer seeking to look perfect without a shirt, I'd just like to get healthy and wear a golf shirt without looking like a bull dyke on the LPGA

My limitations:

-Due to work/life, I can dedicate two hours every afternoon except Tuesday to working out.
-My workout facilities consist of an incline/decline/flat bench, a shitty stationary bike, and God's green earth. (I'm in NY, so its not too green right now)
-I am not going to a gym at this point. I know it would be to my benefit, I know there are many folks there in worse shape than me....I'm just not going to do it right now. (I lived at gyms at points in my life, I just need to get back to where I'm not completely ashamed).
-I will follow all meal plans, but I do have some rules for my diet.....my main meal will not be at lunch. It knocks me out during the day and I can't afford the loss in productivity. I also will be  drinking beer nearly every night with my dad. Don't care if its bad, he's 80, its a way that we bond, and I'm not gonna stop. Figure on 4-6 beers. Call me what you will, I will be consuming those beers as a part of my daily diet, so if you are willing to help, find a way around them.
-No drugs/supplements. I've played the games, I will take nothing other than protein (as needed, once I drop some weight). Absolutely no magic fat-b-gone pills

ETA:

I wanted to clarify my goals. I'll be getting married in August. I want to look good for that. I also want to prepare for some severe hardships.

4-6 beers? Bond over water if you really want to make a difference. It doesn't matter what you're drinking if you want to spend time with your old man. You're not going to "find a way around" 4-6 beers a night. I'll say it again- you are NOT going to find a way around 4-6 beers a night.

So...with that being said, I'm not going to spend a bunch of time recommending things. Feel free to read around other threads if you want. Sorry, not trying to be a dick but that's just the way I see it.

+1

If you and your dad bonded over a slice of carrot cake a night, it would be easy to identify the problem as a problem yourself.

Because you consider it "bonding" material, you will have issues.

How bad do you really want it?

As someone who has put in the blood, sweat, and tears (literally) to lose over two hundred pounds and working on another eighty -it sounds like you need too grow the Fuck up and stop looking for excuses.

Not willing to go to a gym? Bullshit cop out. I had my nearly six hundred pound (and now just over 300 pound) disgusting fat ass in the gym from the start. You're being a pussy. Stop it.

Not willing to give up the beers? Bullshit. Another fucking excuse. If you think your old man wouldn't tell you the same if it would improve your health then you both have shitty priorities. Period

You quite obviously don't want it badly enough and are looking for the easy way out that let's you continue to delude yourself with bullshit weak excuses. Ill tell you right now, there is no easy you have got to want it as badly as you want to breathe, do instead of try, wake up and look at your disgusting fatbody in the mirror every morning and remind yourself how disgusting and pathetic you are, then go out and do something about it. If you don't, or aren't willing to, then shut the Fuck up and continue telling yourself its not your fault, that its not the beers, that you aren't willing to sacrifice, and your health isn't as important as your self pitying excuses.

Man up and go the whole mile or shit the Fuck up.

God hates a pussy.

Before you stuff junk food down your face hole.  Lift up your shirt and take a look at your gut.  If you are happy with what you see, then go for it.

The 900ish calories in beer will require 2-4 hours on the stationary bike every day just to not put more weight on.

Live off fruits and vegetables and beans and tofu, no meat or grains or processed foods and you'll lose the weight quickly if you knock off the beer.

Your past is irrelevant. It's today and forward that matters. I was thinking the same as you on that. I was doing really good before my wrecks and injuries and then not so much. I tried going back at it with the same intensity and just felt so drained. After so many times of that I burned out. I've been doing different things to tweak but the biggest change I've done is a reset on my total workout. Starting small. I hate it because I want to push and it's actually harder to hold back. BUT the drive is there and energy is building. It's not perfect but it's better than I was a couple months ago. That's big in my mind.

You can drink that much beer when you're burning through it but you're nowhere near that stage. If you won't give that up over "bonding" (I think there's bigger issues if you can't "bond" without the presence of alcohol but to each his own) then you really won't get anywhere and you might as well leave. Every guy here is a good guy and willing to freely help but if you're going to bullshit and dance around this one, just forget it. No one likes being pissed on and told it's raining.

You can get by without a gym, certainly possible and doable. But there is no better exercise than building muscle slowly, steadily, and safely. Improves everything from muscle to bone to CNS. You don't even need to be a meathead to do it. In any case at least work bodyweight exercises in. Pushups, pull ups, chin ups, knee raises, dips were all favorites of mine. In fact, I'll be starting them back up this week since my hand injuries are healing up beautifully.

If you say you're getting on an eliptical for an hour, I swear I will smack you through the screen.

I am similar to you in age and body, just 4" shorter, but I made this decision 4 months ago. I stopped drinking, entirely.  I changed what I ate 100%. Ate some stuff I didn't like because I knew it was better for me. I did cardio 6 days a week.  I dropped 50lbs.

Do you want it or not?

After a year of comparing yourself to the models they hire for their photos, you'll realize what a fat, lazy, lard ass you are and why women think you smell like cheese.

And hopefully, after reading the magazine, you'll have information you can act on to finally do something about it.

There is numerous weight loss methods. The one principle though is you have to burn more calories than you take in. This is achieved through a combination of the things you do that burn calories and the calories that you take in. If you take in more than you burn, you gain weight. Take in the same as you burn and you maintain weight. Take in less than you burn and you lose weight. If your method does not respect the principle it will not be an effective method.

That being said we can yell, scream, beg and do everything to encourage you (or not) but you decide on your own how much you eat and move each day. And that is decided soley by you.

Good luck.

You have to cut out the beers. There's no possible way that can continue if you want to get in shape.

I love wine, but I limit it accordingly because I like my body better than my buzz.

The last thing I'll say is this:

OP- it's easy to think we're a bunch of dicks and we're "piling on" and use that as an excuse to go about your business. That is not the case. Instead, you have a bunch of people, all in agreement, on the internet, that you're jacked up. Think about that for a minute then go re-evaluate your priorities and consider, just for a moment, that we may be correct.

Oh, fuck it.  I'm going to go against the grain.  Mostly because you at least posted your requirements up front instead of just saying "how do I get in shape" and then telling us all why you can't do the things we say.

Regarding the beers, I agree with the guys here.  It's like cutting your oar in half while paddling up stream.  Is it really 4-6 beers or is it more like 10-12 beers a night?

How much weight do you have at your home setup?

Also, the bitch tits probably won't go away as long as you're drinking.

P90X.  It will get you in shape if you do your part and you can do it at home.  After doing it you will realize that you will want regular exercise.  Nothing magical about P90X, it is just a well thought out diet and exercise plan that is simple to follow.  The only part of it I don't like is the damned yoga, so when I did it I replaced the yoga workout with core synergistics.

I agree with 1811Guy.

Get P90X or Insanity. Insanity requires zero equipment and P90X is very minimal in equipment. It satisfies the no gym requirement. It is my hope that after trying these workouts and getting your ass handed to you and possibly seeing minimal gains, that you may be willing and motivated to do what is necessary to make true progress.

Nope. Just been busy. Cut way down on beer, pretty much have gone paleo, doing about 45 mins of cardio (sometimes only 30, depending on schedule), and am slowly working into a lifting routine (3x a week, alternate 2 upper body, 1 lower one week with 1 upper 2 lower the next).

With the exception of beer, I pretty much ate paleo anyway when I did the cooking (occasionally had rice as a side)....so its not much of an adjustment for me. The stationary bike blows though....the boredom is miserable. I can't wait for better weather.

Running late tonight, but dinner is season chicken breast on top of a mix of beans, corn, green chilis, ancho chilis, and topped with green onions. Making tomorrows breakfast as well....2 hard boiled eggs.

ETA: Forgot to tell you that for a bunch of gun nuts, you guys really aren't as nice and flowery as I expected. What a bunch of meanies. By the way....I'll be getting my recipes off of Oprah.com from now on

OK,

It has been one week....I have some progress to share and some questions.

First, the facts:

-I'm down about 10 lbs. I'm sure it is all water weight, but I have been monitoring my weight frequently and trying to replace all weight lost with water. I have always consumed incredible amounts of fluids, from milk as a kid, to water, to beer. The beer is now severely limited, and I would ballpark my water intake at around 6L a day (I had been doing around 4L).

-My eating has always been OK (with the exception of beer). I've always done a lot of lean meats and veggies, but in the past I'd include a fair amount of potatoes and sometimes rice or pasta. Potatoes and rice have been cut with the exception of small (about 1 cup) portions on days I've been lifting. Beer has been cut with the exception of 2 beers/day on two days a week. My typical day is 2 hardboiled eggs for breakfast, maybe 4oz of chicken breast and spinach for lunch, and a larger serving of vegetables and meat for dinner. I placed an order with bodybuilding.com and will be incorporating a whey protein shake, multivitamins, and fish oil in there....the shake will hopefully help with the hunger I experience mid day.

-I've toyed around with various methods of exercise, and between my impatience...and well, mainly just my impatience, I've settled on the following:

    Day 1:
Kind of a crossfit/HIT deal. I do 30 pushups, 30 jump squats (w/ 25lb plates), 30 front 2 handed swings with a 25lb bag of #7 lead shot (I am an Arfcommer after all), 30 1 arm snatches of each arm (10lb plates), 30 bicep curls (45lb Olympic bar), and 1 mile on the bike at the most difficult setting. Doing this in 18 minutes (sad) is kicking my ass, but my plan is to work that down to <13mins and then add overhead press, situps or bicycle crunches, and then close grip press with bands. A setup for chinups and dips is also in the works....should have time to run to Home Depot and build something tomorrow.
    Day 2: rest
Day 3: 50 burpees, 30 lunges (with 25lb plates), 6 miles on the bike (hardest setting)
    Day 4: rest
Day 5: start over at day 1

I'm feeling very good with it so far, and the day 1 workout is really challenging for me. I'll eventually switch it up more, and maybe go with the crossfit WOD type of thing, but I really like the ability to time myself and have an easy to track metric of my progress. I will also likely start incorporating daily cardio first thing in the morning (bike for now, running once the weather breaks in the spring). Nothing crazy, just 30 minutes to build up a sweat prior to starting my day. I'll probably play around with the food a bit more, but for now it seems reasonable and its also quite easy....which is good since I really only have an hour or two out of my day to put towards exercise and cooking.

Onto my questions:

-Does this seem like a reasonable path to take? I'm averaging around 1600 calories/day and actually feeling much more energetic than usual (I'm 6'4", 250ish, 30 YO)
-When should I have my protein shake, pre or post workout? When I was very athletic, I'd have them post workout, but pre would work into my schedule much better. Does it really make a difference?
-Figure two days a week I will be having 2 beers. Should I schedule this to be on rest days or on workout days (when its generally advisable to have some carbs)? Does it even matter?
-Once I get back in shape, should I go with zebra or leopard print speedos?

First off, good for you man.  Make it something to stick.

1) It's not the path I would take but it seems reasonable.  Report back in this thread as a log and you'll get help.
2) You definitely need a protein shake post workout.  Pre-workout depending on time of day probably doesn't do much, but do both to be safe.
3)  I'd schedule it post lifting day so I could get some good non-alcohol interrupted sleep prior to working out on the other days.  If it's truly 2 beers it shouldn't matter that much as long as you're getting a good amount of sleep.  Beer/Alcohol doesn't work like post workout carbs you see people talk about.
4) Neither, go do a search for Hizzie and put on those silk panties he wears.  You might need to do squats and deads before your fill it out like he does.

You're right, I need to update my thread or make a new one. I drooped below 300 for the first time in over a decade, then went full retard into the weights, shrank to a 2x shirt and comfortably 40 waist while bulking up to 340. It was disheartening but seeing clothing sizes go down kept me going. I'm now on my first serious cut and doing IF.

If I cab find my thread ill upload a new pic and update. Didn't sub to my own thread lol.

Sorry OP, not trying to hijack
