I recently had 4 stents installed and I'm slowly getting into a exercise routine.  I finish cardiac rehab next week and will be on my own. I want a HRM but I do not really know that much about them. I do know I would prefer one without a chest strap.  I'm not really interested in it having GPS capabilities.  It would be nice if it could interface with my pc, but that is not a deal killer.  Can someone give me recommendations for what I am looking for?

Youre going to want one with a chest strap if accuracy is important to you.  Anything without is a pulse rate monitor and they can be very finicky and extremely inaccurate.  With that said I would recommend the Polar FT4 if youre only looking to have upper and lower limits and dont care about an upload feature.  If you want the upload feature upgrading to the FT7 will get you that.  They run $100 and $120 respectively.  Any key features youre looking for in particular, or are you just looking for something to track your HR?

I'm primarily looking for something to track my HR but I do like techincal bells and whistles, particularly if they will help my recovery.

I have been very happy with my Polar FT4.

My advice - "buy once; cry once".

If you think you might want a feature, buy the unit that has it.  Nothing worse than spending money on something only to go back and buy a slightly better version a couple of months later.
