anybody use this? How do you like it? Seems pricey for some straps. What's the difference between the standard and tactical model other than $50? Different workout regimen?

I took a combat conditioning class where they went over some stuff with one. I will always tell you that free weights are the best way to go. If there is absolutely no way that's feasible then something like the TRX is actually a pretty cool option. Yeah, you can do a lot with body weight movements (and that's free) but the TRX may help keep things interesting, and there really are some pretty cool movements you can do with one.

For me? Pass. I have free weights and I don't see the point, and it costs way too much just to have around.

For someone that lives in an apartment and cannot make it to a real gym? Might be a decent option until you can get a squat rack and bench.

Also nice if you're on the road and can't get to a gym or on a ship with inadequate facilities.

I have one - a gift from a retired SPECOPS buddy - but I almost never use it.

I made my own from some motorcycle tie down straps and a couple of handles for about $30.

Here is a less expensive alternative:  http://www.wossent.com/woss-gear/

I'm considering the SST Ultimate, it looks to be the closest thing to the TRX.  If you want something even cheaper, the trainer-in-a-bag version can be had for $25.  I use the TRX a lot where I go to train.  I would like to have my own, but I can't really justify the expense since I probably wouldn't use my personal one that much.

I did this, except I spent $20 max.

...They make things like dips and pull ups a bit more challenging, but otherwise I don't use them much.  Glad I went the homemade route and didn't spend a lot of money on them.

I used the green tie down straps with the metal cam buckles from Target.  Cut PVC tube for the handles.  Wrap the handles in hockey tape.  Open the steel hook on the longer strap, and take it off of the strap.  Left the hook on the shorter strap to attach to my anchor points.  Run the longer strap through the PVC handles in the same pattern as used on Boxflex Handles.  The strap goes through twice so it doesn't slide too easily when you have weight on it.  Sewed the strap back to itself using fishing line.  Works great.

Wow, those are almost as cheap as you can make one yourself and free shipping seals the deal!

i was gonna pick one up or something similar since i'll be moving into a remote area into a small apartment soon.  i'll be able to get to the gym, but not as often.  I figure I can use it to get a quick and intense workout in if i improvise a bit.  better than nothing, but the homemade route would seem to be the way to go.    the "tactical" version is on govx.com for $210. http://govx.com/p/1019/trx-force-kit-tactical.  gotta be ff/leo/etc to sign up, takes a second, similar to usstandardissue.com (same founders).

Figure at the least it'll give the girlfriend something to do while i'm working and she's job hunting.
