I am generally sceptical of information presented in blogs, but this one is well substantiated.  Either way, read and form your own opinion.

FWIW, I cut out all HFCS from my diet one year ago and so far I do not regret it.

I cut it out as well. I still consume some sugar sometimes but HFCS even tastes bad now.

I've been self-destructing lately because I moved and don't have adequate funds to supply cooking supplies yet(still waiting on the .gov to move my stuff).  I've got to buckle down and get the crap eating out of here, but damn NY pizza tastes so damn good

Meh... much of the same could be said for fats and proteins.  I'm guessing an otherwise healthy person would have to consume something radically in excess of the RDA to be at risk for most of those.

I read the list and some of those 143 issues and the fact that some of those issues are caused by sugar is dubious at best . . . however I dont understand the eye roll.

Are you fine with copious amounts of sugar intake and HFCS as well?

Don't bother.  Eyerolls are genereally prompted by words like health, fit, anything with cycle (recycle, bicycle), hormone-free, grass-fed, etc.  If it can be associated with hippies, it is perforce the debil.

I didn't start the thread so much for the 141 listed reasons, as I did for the reference list.

I didn't say that. The list is silly. I was waiting to read: 76. Makes men beat on their wives/girlfriends, 77. Rapes and pillages the countryside, etc...

Apparently sugar does everything! Can I use it to strip wax off a car too?

To answer, I haven't seen a situation where large amounts of one macronutrient long term is healthy.

I like him a lot, but be advised that he has his own theory about obesity that involves palatability and reward, so he tends to poo-poo anything that supports the carbohydrate/insulin hypothesis.

Here's my take- fructose (and by extension sugar in general) is pretty much harmless if you're using it to replace glycogen, in other words after exercise or long periods of fasting.  Using sugar as your main source of fuel the way the USDA recommends is unquestionably bad for you if you're not constantly expending a lot of energy.

That makes me wonder. Many people say the USDA pushes grains in the food pyramid/plate/whatever the term of the month is mainly due to so many wheat farms and goverment support of the wheat farmers. Do other countries have a food pyramid reccomondation and what does it look like and what is their grain production?

This is a video that really changed my thinking on it: Sugar: The Bitter Truth

Take the time to watch it. Dr. Lustig is a pediatric oncologist and talks about why he's concerned since he started seeing obese babies coming into his practice. Breaks just why sugar is bad juju.

From what I've seen they all mostly follow our lead, at least among nutrition researchers.  I know the Brits have a similarly nanny state approach.

Endocrinologist, but yeah.   He's also the guy who wants to make sugar a controlled substance for anyone under a certain age, which is disappointing but  understandable I guess.

What the crap? I think my Autocorrect changed my misspelling of endocrinologist to oncologist. Thanks for the correction.

I don't agree with making sugar a controlled substance by any means (ie. what NYC doucheberg is trying to do), however, I think Lustig's research is spot on. Sugar is a toxic poison.
