Just thought I'd share my newest resolution to get back into biking/mountain biking. I used to bike constantly as I lived in the country in high-school and without a car of my own to get in trouble with, I spent the majority of my days peddling the dirt roads and hills (when not hiking, climbing trees like a monkey, or chasing wildlife through the woods). After high-school I lived and worked at a huge camp for a few years, so I naturally peddled everywhere I went there as well.
Well, a career in retail management, marriage and kids has meant that the bike hasn't seen any action in a very long time. I pulled the old bike out of the garage last week and well... she's not performing admirably and everything is either shot or very outdated, so I bought one for the wife yesterday. Found a 1 year-old Forge Edgmont in near perfect condition with a number of upgraded parts (peddles, saddle and handlebar grips were not to the satisfaction of the previous owner and were replaced with better parts) for $100 ($300-$350 new). I know the bike isn't the greatest thing in mountain biking, but it will suit our purposes just fine and rides really nice with decent components. I'll probably ride this more than the wife will, but I want to find another for myself soon. Also picked up a kid trailer for those times when the little guys need to be in-tow, and would like to start a family bike riding habit, as well as my off-road riding. Two minutes racing around the property and my legs are burning, toned it down and schooled around for awhile, but I can tell I've got my work cut out for me. Wish me luck and persistence. Got to get back in the game. |

I just started up again too. I used to ride like crazy, to the point I would burn through bikes.
I just completed a 14 mile ride today, 3rd time out since I started up cycling and jogging. The weight is dropping fast. Gonna weigh myself tonight. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
Several years ago when I realized I was way out of shape I bought a pos Swin mtn bike from Walmart....at less than 1 mile into my first ride I thought I had made a $100 mistake . I was very surprised at his quickly the endurance came back. I like a month I was doing 20 mile rides (on road) fairly easily and before the end of that summer I was doing 50-60 milers a couple times a month.
The dirt was where I really had fun....then came the fancy expensive bike and lots of extras. Stay with it and you will be back in good shape in no time. |

Good luck. I'm still trying to get back into it as family time. I haven't rode a bike in close to 15 years. My main problem is I live in goat head city, and I'm sick of replacing flats (can't add slime, as it's a presta valve). They sell pre-Slimed tubes now. Road and mountain. Schrader and Presta. They cost about 8-10 bucks at REI or Dick's. |
