Not to be confused with a dinner pic, because I did not want to include guns (they are nearby, no worries).

I cook quite a bit for my wife and I, and since going primal a few months ago we have really enjoyed ourselves and experiment with different foods or cuts of meat. I found turkey legs on sale so I figured, "Why not?".
I roasted them with a little chardonnay in the bottom of the pan (which we also drank with the meal), and coated the legs themselves with oil, pepper, and kosher salt. I like to keep it simple, especially when trying new things. I then caramelized a red onion with some butter, oil, a pinch or two of salt, and a few table spoons of port (also pictured). They were delicious as a garnish on the turkey. After I finished with the caramelized onions I poured the drippings from the turkey pan into the skillet and added cream. After reducing I had a nice dipping sauce for the turkey (pictured on the side in the final pics).

On the side I had some sweet potatoes cooked yesterday, scooped out, and reheated and mashed with a good portion of coconut oil. Now, I know you are thinking that is strange, but let me tell you, it is quite delicious. I was shocked by how nicely the flavors combined the first time I tasted it. I didnt feel like preparing a second vegetable tonight, and this was plenty filling.

The meat on the turkey legs was good, but it was hard to get to. There are a lot of tendons, and they are thick. Overall, it was a good dinner. For dessert my wife whipped some coconut cream and lime juice and we ate it with some fresh strawberries.

If anyone is thinking about eating a healthier diet I hope this inspires you. I run, lift, and mountain bike, but I was never "healthy" even though I might have had six pack abs. Now I can honestly say that I have done all I can to ensure my health, and thoroughly enjoyed myself (culinary speaking) along the way.

Hmm.......hi fat, low carb, no sugar. I think that fits the bill.

Everything in the food either had a face or grew on the ground or in a tree.

Sweet potatoes are low carb?  Their macronutrient profile is the same as Idaho potatoes.  I love sweet taters and think that they are delicious, but low carb...

I guess if you're controlling by portion size.  More veggies!
