I'm looking for some help with my morning workouts.

I've always been an afternoon/evening kinda guy, but my class schedule and desire for consistency will put my workouts at around 9 in the morning during the week (still in college).

However, I feel physically weaker in the mornings, and after I work out my stomach often feels unsettled.

Take today for example: I got up at 8:45, ate a banana and nature valley granola bar and had some water, then ran the 3/4 mile to the gym and started about 9:15. I did a 15 minute sprint on the rowing machine and a 10 minute medium intensity push-up work out, basically different sets of wide, regular, and narrow grip and some dive bombers. I was beat by the end, feeling very weak throughout my entire body, and I thought I might puke until I walked around a bit and had some water. After I walked back to my house I felt better but still not great, and didn't feel "good" until 11 or 11:30.

Anybody else have this kind of problem, and how did you fix it? Anyone else have any ideas how to feel better in the mornings or to make morning workouts more effective?

Thanks!

I feel your pain. My wife and I go to the gym at 0600 most days, but during holiday periods we'll go later...when we start going early again, it's almost always a tough adjustment for a few days. Here's my advice, TRY a few of these things and see if they work or not discard/modify as needed.

-get up just a little earlier so you can eat earlier and let your stomach settle

-try eating something different, or don't eat at all. I don't eat in the morning, but I do take xtend, which is branch chained amino acids

-give it more time to see if you adjust

-get some caffiene in your system before you hit the gym. There are some studies out there showing the benefits of doing this, it helps me.

Good luck

I have found if i roll straight out of bed into some pushups and situps its helps alot.

Im not talking about a "workout" either. Im not a morning person and cranking out a few sets of pushups straight out of bed is agony. They are slow and ugly but a few minutes later i am ready to go bigtime. makes me feel like i have been wide awake for an hour.

I am a morning zombie though

Harden the f' up.  Just wake up and do it.

Want to fall back asleep?

––think of that paralyzed guy in a wheelchair you saw at the bus stop yesterday, and every damn day. He's there every day waiting for the bus to work.

––think of that old man who just had a stroke and can't walk, spending 4hours/day in rehab... instead of working out like he had been last week.

––think of those people that died in their prime...

You only have so much time to live, make the most of it.

Now, what's your excuse for not working out? Quit being lazy, quit wasting your life waking up late. College is the only damn time you'll have that you can work out 'at your leisure'...
Wake up, drink some caffeinated energy drink mix, go to the gym. Just go.  Even if you don't want to work out. Make the effort to physically get your ass to the gym. Take a leak at the gym and go home if you're still not feeling it... but f'n go.

Sorry, my mistake.

Get motivated to work out in the morning and in about 2-3 weeks you'll feel like 100 bucks when you wake up.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely try those. And thanks for the mature response.
And I laugh at some of you who automatically assume I'm some kind of pussy. It's not gonna stop me from working out, I'm just trying to make mine more efficient and productive.

So politely go fuck yourselves.

Edit: Since I can't tell if anyone is joking, if you are, thanks for the motivation and ignore the above line

I agree. I'm thinking (hoping) this will be the case. Motivation to get up and do it isn't an issue, although I understand how it can be questioned

No problem man. Not everyone is a morning person, I sure as hell am not...but when that's the only time you have to do you just have to do everything you can to make it a little easier/productive.
