So, I noticed the other day that I was not "that was a great workout" sore, but more like "i was set on fire and it was put out by beating me with a stick" sore. I usually do either chest, back, arms, shoulders and legs, or chest/tri, back/bi, shoulders and legs, with run days in between, anywhere from one to three "off days" per week depending on my work flow. Abs are done three days a week. I don't have set days, like Monday being chest day, for example, but it is more like a progression. I start on "chest day" and go until I get back around to chest day again. Currently taking Animal M-stack along with Animal Flex, and Muscle Milk after my workout. I average 7-8 hours of sleep, but sometimes as little as 6. Anyone have any sound reasoning why everything hurts so much? Maybe it is because I turn 35 next month.

Did you change your workout at all? (lifts, weight, reps/sets, etc..)

Did you start a new program?  Have you been away from lifting recently?

I change it up from week to week...three sets of 10, 4 sets of 10,10,8,8; dumbbells or barbells or cables, pyramids going up and down with weight and reps, you get the idea. Been lifting since I arrived on KAF in April (deployment.

I got  hella doms a couple times when I lifted then didn't eat enough that day or the next day. I'm not talking missing maintenance by 500 cals but if I basically don't eat at all.

Are you on a massive deficit?

This would have been my next question.  Are you hydrating properly as well?

Do you take statin drugs? If you do then you might want to take Co Q10.  Are you eating enough protein? A trainer might say multiply your weight by 1.5 to get the grams of protein you should be taking in everyday. I thought I was doing good at around 70grams but obviously not. I just bumped mine up to about 120 grams a day to see if I have any improvements but no way I can knock down 240 grams of chicken fish and protein shakes in a 24 hours period.

Dieting is very important when it comes to working out properly.

Have you tried eating more?

Also, Muscle Milk is garbage.  It has too much crap in it and too many carbs.  I use Optimum Whey Protein, which is a lot cleaner.  There are other good shakes out there too.

Could be the diet. There is not much to choose from here on KAF, and what there is available sucks the sweat off a dead man's balls.

What kind of progress are you making on your lifts?

If they have stalled out, you may want to drop the weights by 10% or so and take a 2-4 weeks to work back up to your current lifts.

I get sore when I dont eat enough. Bulking- never sore. Cutting- always sore.

and my muscle milk has the same amount of cals as my ON. It depends on which one you buy. It does take a larger scoop to provide the same amount of protein as ON though.

Get a BCAA supp, or a protein shake for post workout with a good BCAA profile.  I use Carnivore for my post workout shake for this reason.

If you eat right and drink right, you shouldn't be crazy sore.  I beat the shit out of my shoulders and arms yesterday, but then had a Carnivore shake and two breadless cheeseburgers before going to bed.  Little stiff today, but not killer sore.

Reasonably sure it is not a hydration problem. It does not happen every time I lift, but every so often, like every two weeks or so.

I have actually been steadily increasing the weight that I lift.

please don't brow-beat me for asking this..

How bad is drinking alcohol? (NOT DURING THE WORKOUT! )  I know it can dehydrate, but what other issues can it cause.  I keep getting a burning sensation in my leg muscles especially from running and squats.

I ask because, I am an uninformed noob.

Edit: large print.

I usually stick to non-alcoholic drinks during my workouts unless specifically training for the beer mile

Try 58, when getting up at 4:00 just to take a leak is something akin to moving like the tin man, and it takes nearly five minutes to get the job done.

It depends on who you ask. Some say it's the debil and will turn you muscles to mush and others say don't worry and drink up. From my own experience a few beers doesn't hurt a thing but if you tie one on real good after lifting heavy prepare to be hungover and sore as shit.

Some people swear on ice baths after particularly hard workouts and races. Reduces inflammation but I read a good article how it helps.

I use Combat protein and started taking a psot workout shake from max muscle called ARM. I think it has helped a lot especially on big leg/chest workouts or doing shit with a prowler. That and an ice bath when I do heavy legs or shoulders helps a lot. If you cannot do an ice bath, get ziplock bags of ice, not freezer packs, and put on for 20 mins at a time.

Just make sure to eat a LOT, get plenty of water and make sure you're getting the protein supplementation you need (either from food or supplement, or both).  I also have been known to take a NSAID post-workout if I am exceptionally sore, and don't plan on having the option to walk around/stay stretched afterward.

They have a ton of carbs, which is generally not in the best interest of somebody wanting to keep pounds off. Hops are a natural testosterone blocker (So I've heard), and can cause some recovery slow-downs. It dehydrates you, which makes it difficult for your body to properly metabolize and transport nutrients.

It's  not exactly the devil, but don't go all college-binge-drinking when you're lifting. A drink here and there won't hurt you one bit.
