Tell me about them...Are they worth using and why?  I'm doing a Warrior Dash late this summer and want to do the Tough Mudder next summer.  I'm pretty fit and am looking for something different to use as a tool.

This one came up in another thread and I was considering it  http://www.weightvest.com/

ETA:   I'm a little drunk so I just ordered one.  I guess I'll provide the review.

this. if you have access to one i'd recommend it over a weight vest any day. (i've used both) the weighted vest i have (ebay el-cheapo deluxe) slides around all the time and doesn't fit well. also, there is a certain feeling of accomplishment when you finsh Murph or a 5k with your armor.....

I have a 20lb weighted vest.  I love it when I am in shape to use it.

I bought about 5 years ago when it was on sale (after christmas sale for cheap) and I am glad I did.  I didn't run or anything in it cuz don't run but for all my PT stuff.

Those really seem to mimic plate carriers.  The one I got is probably more comfortable...

Mine looks very similar to yours, and I can't stand working out in it. YMMV

Really, this is a very comfortable vest thought I've not tried on any others....

If I were to get another one I'd probably get one of the ones the OP got just from how they look

i can't speak for GetDown, but not for me. the first few times i was sore all over from the added weight. I must say this: after working out a couple times a week in armor (along with regular PT), swat training is a breeze. i'm not as tired, my groups are better, i'm noticeably faster, etc.

No different than a weight vest, which is minimal. That's part of fitness when you have to run in that gear on ops. I'm out now, but still keep my fitness up (if not better) as a goal/stress reliever from dealing with civies.

Only reason to run with a weighted vest is to train for an event where you need to run while carrying a load.

OP the vest is going to do very little on its own to help you train for the warrior dash. The one I ran in June was like 2 miles worth of steep muddy ATV trails. The obstacles pose now really challenge and provided a measure of relief from the hills. If you really want to train for jump into a muddy pond with your clothes on and go run some hills.

The Tough Mudder is an entitely different animal google some reviews and read up

I know this isn't going to be  the do all end all.  I'm just trying to find some different things to use to keep things interesting.  I'm also going elk hunting in CO this fall and we're packing everything in on foot.  It's hard to replicate mtns and altitude in NE, but I can at least add wt.  I want to start with the vest and wind up with my pack.  The vest seems like a good training tool.

Here's a photo I took for the thread just to show how I have my PC (an SKD PiG) setup for runs. I strip the mags/pouches so that I don't freak anyone out in the neighborhoods (ESAPIs are still in), and I usually run a 2L bladder as well, but don't have it in this shot b/c the tube is messed up and being replaced right now. It rides high and I keep it tight, but the shockcord for the cummberbund keeps breathing simple. Additionally, the PiG has padding that surrounds the spine, so you don't even feel much on your back at all, unlike a lot of other PCs. I remember having to run with the MTV, and that freaking sucked. My new PC is awesome, and encourages me to run with it often. It's a nice added challenge, and I'm using the PC for two purposes, instead of having a dedicated weight vest.
