I have a muscle in my right shoulder/upper back that stays inflamed or flares up again as soon as I can get it to settle. If I stop all exercise, it settles down, but as soon as I do anything upper body, it gets going again. I stopped exercise for two full months, and then came back and did 20 pushups, and it was right back on. I have been prescribed muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory, spent six weeks in physical therapy, and no improvement. As soon as I do a handful of pushups or chin ups, it's back.

Any ideas?

Do you know which muscle it is exactly?

Nope. Long ropey type that runs just inside of the shoulder blade.

Rhomboideus major or Trapezius would be my guess after a quick consultation with Dr. Google.

Well its going to hard for me to guess whats going on if I dont know which muscle or muscle group it is.  With all thats going on back there, it could be a number of things.

Have Insurance?  Get an MRI and let an ortho Dr. figure it out.

Any injuries to your shoulder before?  What did your PT do with you?
