I'm looking to pillar bed a Boyds laminate stock for a mauser variant.

I'm looking at pillars on Brownells and I have no idea how tall the pillars need to be or if you can grind them (aluminum) to the correct height. Do most pillars need to be ground/filed to fit non-standard (rem 700, etc) stocks?

Help.

When I pillar-bedded one of my M70's, I ground the pillar to the height required before I epoxied it in the stock.

I think there is too much deviation in stock heights to try and get one already pre-made.

Pillars for a Remington are a constant height.
.735 front, 1.250 rear. You must maintain these dimensions for proper box magazine seating and feeding, doesn't matter if it is a SA or LA.
Your stock is the variable component. Usually you either inlet the bottom metal deeper or shim and bed it.

Edit, I missed it is a Schnauzer. Install the bottom metal on the reciever outside of the stock. Just snug the screws and make sure the relationships are correct and it feeds correctly. Measure the length between bottom metal and receiver.
That will be your pillar length.
