Disclaimer: I tend to overthink and analyze way too much and this case is no exception.
A few months ago I bought a Savage 10T .308 (another purchase that took months for me to figure out) and I still haven't scoped it because I am retarded and can't make up my mind. I know that in my search I have been able to eliminate certain features and have a good idea of what I am looking for in a scope. I don't need FFP, I don't need a ton of magnifaction, I would like it to be a mil/mil setup and I would like to keep the cost below $700 for just the scope. Honestly I think the farthest shot I will be taking is going to be at 600m (after practice, not going to shoot that far at the start) but generally hovering between 200-400. This is going to be a paper/steel rifle, shooting known distances. I have looked over many reviews and have narrowed down my options, here is my list: SWFA SS - 10x or 12x SWFA SS - 3-15x42 Vortex Viper HS-T 4-16x44 Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 Is there another option I should consider? Any thing to help me narrow down even further? I know people have experience with all of them and with the exception of the fixed power SWFA, they are close in price to each other. Thanks, MD |

Not sure how much insight I can offer as I'm not overly versed in scopes, but after a bunch of reading and thinking I settled on the Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 with mrad reticle. I got it for $500 from eurooptic. I think this will prove to be a very capable scope. Maybe more scope than I really needed but everything else I looked at was similar in price if not more.
I have a 3-9 on my 6mm Rem and I usually just dial it to 9 for even 100 yard shots so I think I will enjoy the better magnification for longer shots - especially given my eyes aren't what they used to be. |
